Thunderbird Club

I've only gotten to take the pic so far :( , had to go out & do more errands.

But, it's got some minor finish damage & 2 broken tuners - which made it less than half-price, including taxes & shipping :greedy: , even though it's technically brand-new
That's quite a deal! Minor finish damage - who cares. Broken tuners - big deal. Get nicer, lighter ones for not a lot of money.

One of the more expensive-ish basses I've bought, but for this?

....seems worth it ;)

OK. With a few notable exceptions. In my high school daze, if you were driving a four door, it was your parents car. Otherwise hadda be a 2door. Coupe, sedan, ragtop, whatever. Sport sedan? No such animal. The only 'hot' 4 doors belonged the police
So true in my HS days as well (1977 grad). The other indicator at the time for parents cars in the school parking lot was if the car was a Japanese import and/or less than 4 years old.

too heavy for my liking....720lbs for an elephant block...540lbs for an AMC small block...
It's all relative. A pony car should be light and more nimble than a muscle car, so a high output small block makes perfect sense. A muscle car should be fast in a straight line and good for stoplight racing on the street or drag racing on the track with plenty of torque at low RPM, so a high output big block makes perfect sense. I personally wouldn't want a 1971 Charger with a 318, too much car not enough engine, I'd take the large block 440 magnum or one of the Hemi engines. In a much smaller and lighter AMX I'd go medium block at most. JMHO YMMV

So, I got a new bass today. :eyebrow:

It's not a Thunderbird. :rage: :crying:

But I wanted to share, so I took a picture of it with a Thunderbird .... :bag:

(it, of course, needs work. Do I even buy things that don't? :bored: )

Very nice addition, congrats ! Love those, I have a ray24ca that plays beautifully.

exactly, and as the math does not discriminate, all cars started looking the same......cracks me up when I hear engines start/stop at a traffic light....can’t help but tell my boy “man you guys missed out”...
Idle stop go has to be the best false economy in the auto industry. For an imperceptible increase in fuel economy, you use the starter many times during a trip ensuring early failure. OK, failure after the expected number of starts, but increasing the number of starts per trip by an order of magnitude...

It’s more about emissions than fuel economy....

In the US the greatest push downhill was gov average fuel-economy requirements (mid 70s). Forcing engineers to look at and consider every option. I don't blame them. They had a fuel pump to their heads. Which is why the gov should stay out of Thunderbird decisions. We would end up with with a Titmouse instead of mighty Thunderbirds. It's cute, but ain't no Thunderbird.

Politics (government) makes everything bad.
