TT, sitting atop my GLBBoB.

This thread moves so fast, I miss a lot, but saw the discussions on the “new” NR.

My 2018 has been my number One since a got it, and after I put the Lollars in it. I’m a bit thrilled by the idea of the latest NR having also Alnico5 pups. I’m pretty certain that’s the same material from which the Lollars were made, but there’s a lot of mojo in pup making, so really have no clue as to how they would compare. Maybe you folks would have opinions...

In any event, I put in a pre-order on Feb 10, without really knowing the spec, and expecting to mod it. Maybe I won’t have to swap out the pups this time.

I’m really hoping this NR is as sweet as my current R. We’ve gotten to be very close. :woot:

If it wasn't for the fact that the knobs are on the other side, I still mistake your bass for a Non Reverse.

It reminds me of the guitars that Paul Raymond of UFO used to play.

Raymond and Michael Schenker, I saw them with UFO back in 2008

Yeah, still waiting for the new pickguard, which will have the Thunderbird logo properly-oriented.

Not Thunderbird related but that's never stopped me. 47 years ago a monster was born. Slag 'em off all you like. The truth is is if it weren't for Gene I never would have been able to get myself onstage as a young lad. Being in the presence of his over the top confidence onstage literally was so powerful that it allowed a unbelievably shy introvert to make the stage feel like home, for that I am forever grateful.
Here's my original copy bought in early '74, it or course has Kiss'n Time. View attachment 4172319
I love to make fun of Gene for his obnoxiously outspoken avarice. I also love the interviews he has done with Ace and seeing his blood pressure rise every time Ace laughs.

But, learning some Kiss bass lines you quickly find out that Gene, for all his faults (and some of those faults are hilarious), is a hell of a good bass player. And then you consider that he does that in a costume that can't be comfortable or easy to move in then add the circus tricks on top of it and you realize that he is a hell of a performer.

I'll still make fun of Gene. But I respect him as a player.

And then Kiss as a band is something. They didn't invent glam but they made it into a spectacle. They didn't invent the stage show but but they taught everyone how big a rock show could be. Without Kiss, there would be no Madonna, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars or Taylor Swift. Nor would there be the Scorpions or Judas Priest.

I saw Schenker back when we used to have live music. At his age, he still plays great and puts on a fantastic show. Spared no expense for the fans - 3 singers, one for each era (Scorpions, UFO, solo).

Hello Toronto! I'm Michael Schenker and I'm here to Pump You Up!

But may not have been stars in the hair metal era had it not been for Kiss. Actually, I would argue that hair metal owes its existence to Kiss.

No matter what they became later, I agree that KISS made a huge impact on that era. Even if the later 80s bands (and 90s as well) sounded nothing like them, a whole lot of them picked up a guitar or bass because of Ace or Gene; much like so many of the 70s bands did because of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan.
