Width of fingers....
subjective, I’m a big proponent of bipolar (not FET) output stages........in a nutshell, I can dial both in to sound very similar..... the Ashdown can do everything the SVT can (and more) while the opposite is not true..
Having owned both an Ashdown and an SVT head, I'd say there is one thing the SVT excels at that the Ashdown can't begin to accomplish...Almost. The Ampeg still adds lots more physical stage presence.
LOL - maybe we need to do a "show your bass room ceiling" day.I think the only one of mine I've not hit the ceiling with (customary when one is overly tall) is, somewhat ironically, the VP that already had the big chip when I got it...

Sure, but on that argument, why do they produce so many different string gauges?
Mind blown.Vice versa, actually.
Well, truth be told, there is but one string manufactured, this post in another thread explains it.
That's interesting on several levels - I didn't know Gibson had a demo room; I'm surprised they still have a demo bass with features that were discontinued 6 years ago; I suspect the asking price for the demo bass is very close to what the bass cost new.2015 Thunderbird from the Gibson Demo Shop.

They are clearing out the inventory of the Henry J. era. That includes prototypes, demo-models, one-offs,... They get listed every Tuesday or Wednesday, sometimes with interesting discounts on unique stuff. IIRC every instrument also gets signed by the current CEO.I didn't know Gibson had a demo room
You just don't get good advice like this everywhere. You can always count of the guy with (fake) seagull poop on the hat to come through.Being already done, you don't need to bash it.
I clicked on "Gibson Demo Room". Interesting. Currently 3 basses listed. That's interesting on several levels - I didn't know Gibson had a demo room; I'm surprised they still have a demo bass with features that were discontinued 6 years ago; I suspect the asking price for the demo bass is very close to what the bass cost new.
None of those are bad things, just interesting and not what I would have expected. I'd imagine it plays very nicely. Next time I'm in the area I'll have to stop in and take a look around the demo room.![]()
Ah, P/J pups. Nope.
News to me, too. I thought the price looked high, but they all seem to up in that area now. For better or worse, at least this one was probably set up by Gibson themselves before being put up for sale. That's interesting on several levels - I didn't know Gibson had a demo room; I'm surprised they still have a demo bass with features that were discontinued 6 years ago; I suspect the asking price for the demo bass is very close to what the bass cost new.

Someone here should consider adding it to their aviary. Great Thunderbird. They don’t seem to be coming down in price. Bigger than a house case included.2015 Thunderbird from the Gibson Demo Shop.

Interesting. But a PJ is a non-starter for me.
Plus a 2-year warranty from Gibson isn't a bad deal.Someone here should consider adding it to their aviary. Great Thunderbird. They don’t seem to be coming down in price. Bigger than a house case included.

I'm not doing the calculations to resolve the pulling force on the rear inserts again!
