My ignorance might be showing a bit, but I had always just assumed the string gauge within a specific brand and type was much more about playability and feel than sound. If a heavier G string brings better balance to the tone of my bass I'm game to try it. I suspect it isn't going to make fretting with my pinky finger any easier and there's always the possibility it might slow me down a bit. Still, the curiosity in me has been triggered.That's certainly true, but when something like the SIT Power Steel comes in 40-95, 45-100, 45-105, 50-105, and 50-110....
