Thunderbird Club

I got it for a real good price, previous owner knew there was a neck break. The break wasn't all the way through but I was definitely broken. Took in the a recommended luthier and it is fixed. the crack is still visible but I don't care, it works as it should and sounds like thunder, I am quite pleased. I have to admit though I have thought about changing the pup. No changes for a while, I have way to much on my plate as it is now.
yeah, now I recall you mentioning that brake some time back...almost like a requisite for a Bird....these beg for a different pup/s. never tried Lulls or Lollars but I can say TBuckers turn these into air moving equipment. one of the reasons I recently acquired a Greco IV was to (possibly) at some point swap the pups with the BaCH’s...

Hello everyone!!!
I recently got my hands on a beautiful epi EB-3, and I have been drifting more and more to that type of sound, and leaving my comfort zone (P bass and MM style). Because of that I have been thinking about getting an Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro , I think that right now they are called Epiphone Thunderbird 60's, but I am a die hard flats fan, would a Thunderbird work fine with flats ? Or, due to it's classic sound be to muddy to even sound good ? Anyone here rocking Thunderbirds with flats, and if so, which brand??

PS: Played the white one yesterday (with some rounds) and absolutely loved the feeling, but thinking about the classic sunburst, by far one of the most beautiful basses I have ever seen!

Thank you all.
I have EB Cobalt flats on my VP and have had Fender flats on it. Both work well for rock. (And Jazz now that I think about it)
That said Rotosound RS-66 are also great on that bass.

Most headstock breaks are repairable with no effect on the sound or playability. IIRC there’s a couple of members here that bought a VP or Embassy with a broken headstock for the hardware, gave the repair a try and kept the bass intact.

Stuck at work......Thunderbird dreams.

Thx Irv, yeah pretty lucky to have just one break (not all the way through on the Gen2) in the flock....

Looks like you're working real hard there. :)

I'm in my broom closet (Er, office in downtown Seattle today), which is a shame because it's a beauty of a Spring day here.

Did the Sunday, 9 AM-noon brunch gig today. 67NR 'Bird>R100. Guitar, drums, and me from our regular group plus 2 saxes and a girl singer. Went pretty well, crowd didn't seem to mind us disturbing their breakfast. I have a gig Friday night with some ppl I've jammed with, then nada 'til 6/5+6/6.
Yep, on at 5 tonight....wondering what to take.....
