Thunderbird Club

I played the new Nonreverse today, they are not available for sale yet but I was impressed. Hipshot ultralight tuners, alnico V pickups. The faded Pelham Blue finish is beautiful, still waiting for the Inverness Green that I ordered.
Great news! The Hipshots make the price a bit easier to swallow. I was hoping you were going to tell us the launch was delayed because they decided to go with the claw and two piece. Anyway, Exciting!

I was hoping Scott was going to say they were awful and I could stop thinking about getting one.:)

Should Gibson give members here a discount? Would this ever have happened if this club didn't exist first?

Looking forward to playing one in person. Hoping the neck is similar to my '14.

They are really nice bags, but no Thunderbirds or Gibson's with angled headstocks in those tests. I have a nice bag for a Thunderbird, but would only use very sparingly to take one someplace. And it's a great bag.
My EB-2 lived in a gig bag for decades with no problems. I was always careful with it, but it didn't get babied. It was the only bass I had for many years. It has a case now, and it's semi-retired because I play 'Birds almost all the time now. There may not be a moral to this story.

Try some DR Pure Blues...
Noted and on the short list.

Gator begs to differ.

Important to note - no Thunderbirds were harmed in the making of these videos. In fact, there weren't even any birds in harms way since they weren't included in the tests.

I suspect you'd have a better than 50% chance of survivability with a TBird in the last three videos. But that first clip, off the roof and landing directly on the headstock would have easily destroyed the bird head.
If it makes you feel any better, I don't think a birds chances would be massively better with the same test in a stock hard case.

My Alembic hard cases would have protected it but they're metal with tons of reinforcement, padding and camLocks. They also weigh about 30# and destroy everything they bump into, and cost more than a typical used Thunderbird bass.

Bottom line - don't throw your birds off the roof (case, bag or nude). These birds don't fly, they dive! And if ya gotta bag it, a Gator is one of the better options. A hard case is still your best protection, but not always practical. And stock Gibson/Epiphone hard cases are pretty much middle of the road protection wise, some brands are worse and some are much better.

One word: Boomers. They specialize in low mids. Massive but punchy tone.

For my purposes I found the Pure Blues pretty disappointing. I wold label them meh, uninteresting with my rigs.
Got it. I'll add Boomers to the short list.

Same. Pure Blues might be ok if you want to tame down a certain bass, but found em to be a really lifeless string. I’ve only ever used heavy gauge Boomers which sound huge, though a bit dark. On my TBirds I haven’t found anything I like more than Ken Smith BassBurners or Cobalt flats, depending on what I’m going for.

Looks like another vote for Boomers.
Adding KS Bass Burners to the short list.
Cobalt Flats are always a great option, but I already have those on other birds so I'm going Rounds on this one.

That's all I needed to know.
I thought about it for awhile and think I’ll sit this one out for now especially after Scott’s latest observations......I think I’d rather invest in a another Greco....

As much as I like Black Beauties, the Flamingo will keep Bass Burners and the pixie dust 2001 will eventually have Cobalt Flats again. LaBella tapes on the '15 are their own thing, and it's its own thing.
