I was wondering that myself.
That's the Runaways. Michael Steele on bass, later of Bangles fame, and Joan Jett on guitar (not seen).

Yay, flats! And you’re named after my favorite sport.Since it's Thunderbird Club, I've got a recent success story to tell.
The one on the left is my T-Bird Pro in Natural Oil, and when I got it some time back, the strings sounded too metallic with what I thought was horrible fret buzz. Two local guitar techs looked at her - the first said the neck was slightly twisted and couldn't be undone, even with turning the truss rod; the other said it was fine, changed the strings and replaced the plastic nut with bone. It sounded good for a while, but the ringing came back. It might have a weather-temperament, contracting just a bit more with colder weather (I guess it's a Georgia Peach).
Two things happened: while poking around TB, I read a comment that T-Birds were designed when flatwound strings were the only option; the other was a conversation at band rehearsal, and someone said that one cure for fret buzz is flatwound strings. I thought, "why not?" and replaced the roundwounds (D'Addario EXL165s) with Dunlop 45-105 stainless steel flats. Holy Priceless Collection of Etruscan Snoods, Batman - night and day! It's punchy and smooth, and hits the bottom end solid. It sounds so good that I'll be using it in an upcoming show.
The one on the right is a standard made in China version that I'll be converting to heavy metal use, by putting on BEAD strings and working on different tunings.

These are kind of an NR Thunderbird (II) in disguise (set neck, all mahogany). I've had an F50R (jumbo acoustic) for 35 years. It's my favorite sounding acoustic of all time and I've always wanted a matching (headstock) bass to go with it. I almost got the white one yesterday (it was for sale locally) but it sold on Reverb on Thursday night... So the black one (which was cheaper but not as pristine) is on it's way. If it's a keeper I may have to refinish it in white; I really like that look.
who’s who? only recognize Jett...
How cool, thx Instagator..!wish I could send you this one for a short term loan...I am so jealous..Good luck with the gig.

Nice. So at least three of us Thunderbird people also have BC Riches.
Shouldn't be too hard to find, right?I did, but that Mockingbird is a Fernandes copy. I'm on the lookout for an original NJ Eagle or Warlock. I had one of the the Warlocks 15 years ago at the same time I had a US, '81 Mockingbird, and the neck on the NJ was perfect to me. Not quite Thunderbird sized, but a lot closer than their US counterparts. It sounded just as nice as the Mockingbird, too. I wish I'd never sold it.
