Thunderbird Club

Shouldn't be too hard to find, right?

I was lucky enough a few years ago to pick up a left-handed 1976 Bodine. All mahogany, 8 lbs., and a super thin neck. Actually feels a little thinner than the Thunderbird's, which is already quite thin.

For me, pedals are fun and useful, but can add a variable level of complexity, like proper effect order, cables and powersource. Nothing complicated, just stuff to be aware. I always used a pedalboard, but tend to keep it limited to what's needed in band context. IMO, the key is to keep it as simple and efficient as possible.

Just so I understand, you're playing bass with the RC tribute band or your band is going on tour with them ? Cool in both cases anyway, I don't know much about RC except that he plays blues, so for that, lots if not most bassplayers will go straight bass>amp, or add some compression or light OD and set-up a simple chain: bass>tuner>comp>OD>amp. If you're playing with your usual band, I seen a few vids, but a peek on the set list would help before answering. PM if you want.

My current board looks like this. I'm toying with the ID of replacing the Zoom B3N with an older Boss ME-50B I just got for kicks.

I did, but that Mockingbird is a Fernandes copy. I'm on the lookout for an original NJ Eagle or Warlock. I had one of the the Warlocks 15 years ago at the same time I had a US, '81 Mockingbird, and the neck on the NJ was perfect to me. Not quite Thunderbird sized, but a lot closer than their US counterparts. It sounded just as nice as the Mockingbird, too. I wish I'd never sold it.

I haven’t had a chance to bring my Eagle to a gig, but I’m starting to like having that booster/preamp on board.
The volume can be on 10, but now I have a switch and another volume that can take it to 15;)

Parfait Mike, just the kind of input I need!
Merci. No not going on tour with Cray (I wish) but joining a tribute band to fill some summer dates...
Je te PM.

Can anyone tell me if the Artic White Epi VP. has been discontinued? I see ebony and burst either in stock or on back order but it seems like white has been removed as an option.
I think the rumor is that the white Eppi VP has been discontinued or sold out for the year. The remaining two color options (Black and Burst) are the only options right now, and I think the model name has also been changed.

Wow - that's way past 11...

Same here - each pedal is used during a gig. The BBE Sonic Stomp, MXR bass di+, and BOSS CS-2 stay on for everything.

This is mine. The Whirlwind phaser gets used very sparingly. The Damnation MBD serves all my dirt needs. Between the Gain and Depth knobs, you can get anything from modern crunch to old school tube-like overdrive. The MXR pre is for taming the amp du jour (or direct) I have to play though.

C'est good.

I'm guessing this is overkill for a blues gig :smug:

For my Country band I have a Pedalboard Jr, with a compressore, X2 wireless receiver, Tu2 tuner, and Phat Phuk B boost. It's minimal, but does the job. A TC Spark boost may also make it's way on, or could be substituted for the Phat Phuk.

Ha ha ha !
A good HPF is on my list, my fDeck is nearing the end. Why did you get that model ? I'm also looking at the simpler ones that could go below deck.

Very nice. I had one of those Sonic Stomp once and honestly didn't think much of it at the time, but after talking to a bassist friend about a year agon, I started using the Exciter effect on my B3N and finally got that adding a little went a long way, especially since I don't use preamps anymore. Might even get a SS back if I sees one on the locals. That Boss Tremolo always makes me think of my guitar-player brother. I won't have a pedalboard without it and his unit is close to 30 yo. I was at his place yesterday, doing a pedalboard makeover and he kept checking if I was putting it back in .
