I thought it would be fun to rig a cello with a pickup and strap buttons and tune and play it like a bass guitar. Cellos cost too much to do that, though. Too bad, because it would make switching back and forth between an upright sound and a Thunderbird a lot easier. Maybe. Add an AB switch or a second wireless transmitter and at least the cords wouldn't be a problem.I cant think of one reason to play anything else! The main band I play with doesn’t use set lists and moves very quickly. Switching from electric to upright can be...interesting
Thanks! That was a Dingwall Super J/P through a Mesa M9 and my 1822 cab. I sold the Dingwall because I just don’t do fancy pants basses. That was shallow of me to do because it played and sounded really good. Should have kept it for recording
I have a soft spot for those weirdo 60’s guitars. So cool looking!
Thanks, Miles!
Thanks, Geo!
These Tubes?
That is a very good price these days.Hey guys, found a Gibson Thunderbird for sale (obviously, not mine) on CL in the Bay Area (Fremont) - a red one!
- for what seems a not bad price.
Figured I'd share here in case one of you might be interested & hadn't seen it

I got a chrome Squier logo badge thing a while back. It gets applied to everything at least once. Just because it bothers some people, it's chrome, and I can.Nice Greco! I agree on the truss cover. Inaccurate branding is a pet peeve of mine. If ya got a Greco, fly that banner with pride. I think the truss cover on the Greco I just ordered is missing, so if you find a Greco replacement supplier let me know I might need one also.
The reason you bought the Greco is because you have clearly been chosen by Thunderbirds. They like you. You can't escape.1990, I’m pretty sure
I just hooked it up through my Mesa TT800 and Berg HDN212. It sounds good to me so far. It’s strung with Rotos, which I don’t dislike, but they wouldn’t be my first choice . My Gibson has Chrome flats at the moment, so it’s tough to really a/b em. Pickup locations are quite different. I’d also like to raise the neck pickup a bit. So far I like it though!
I’ve played through a PF500 in a rehearsal space, but iirc it was on a Traynor TC1510. It sounded pretty good and wasn’t difficult to dial up nice tones. Maybe that Hartke cab has seen better days?ok, rant time....getting kinda fed up with active electronics, I mean they work beautifully on instruments that had them from the get go such as the post 7ender LF stuff....this thing is a dream player...

I was not at all pleased with the tone from my “active” P through that Ampeg/Hartke rig
yesterday...yes, the rig (and room) is partly to blame but attaining a workable tone should be more straightforward from “pro” grade gear. can’t help but think I’ve been spoiled from playing T-Birds for the past few years.....so, current thinking is....look for a vintage P or.....hmmmm....

My favorite from the Brian Jones era.

The Stones did a fair bit of country.

I followed the Stones from the beginning (I initially liked them more than the Beatles until Rubber Soul/Revolver/Sgt Peppers LHCB) to Sympathy For The Devil. After that a song/occasional LP (Sticky Fingers/Some Girls) but I had moved on to other favorite bands. The thing about the Stones is they have been going for so long they have a number of different followers from each decade. Maybe not so much anymore - mostly nostalgia shows.
Beautiful...got the idea from you..

one of the new ones and MIA...priced at about 1700, lots of bass for that money..played and sounded beautiful. the one on your picture kills me everytime you post..one of my favorite from your collection..what's the story on that bass? like a warmouth body with a 7ender neck and borrowed G&L electronics? Is that one of the new RI's of the L2000 or a vintage one? I have a number of active basses but the G&L (MFD pu's/9v pre system) is hands down the best.
