Thunderbird Club

The Solo rails look nice and I'm sure are built every bit as good as the regular Babicz bridge. A watch out might be grounding. You'll need a way to ground each individual rail, might work if you ground the first rail and have a metal vs bone or non conductive nut, or a single grounded thin sheet of copper foil that spans across the bottom of the five total rails.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought about that yet. :thumbsup:

I do have a brass nut on that bass (maybe factory?), but I like to use coated strings, so I may not want to rely on that?

Probably easy enough to extend the ground wire, or, maybe, use a small strip of the same copper sheeting used to line the pickup/electronics cavities, and run it under all 5, connected to the bridge ground.....

so it's safe enough? I don't need to pay extra bucks? Sorry for these question but it's going to be my first Thunderbird and I don't have any idea how to own a Thunderbird.
You don't own a Thunderbird. It chooses you if you are lucky enough to be chosen. Based on your questions, there's one looking for you right now.

Do any of you guys have any experience with the Babicz FCH-1 Solorails?

I'm thinking of changing the bridge on my Pro 5, at some point, and I prefer the Babicz adjustment system - but the FCH-5 (5-string bridge) has .75" (19mm) string spacing, a bit more than the 11/16" (17.5mm) the current bridge has (might be too wide for the fretboard).

So, I was looking at maybe using the Solorails, which seem like they'll do what I want, but they're not exactly cheap ($60 each x5), so I'm trying to do a bit of research on them first.

I don't, but those look really great. I don't have the kind of patience necessary to install them precisely enough, though.

@JIO
Beautiful build! Lots of neat features built in. The string thru body design looks exceptionally cool and was probably much harder to layout and execute than a typical vertical drilled set. The safe standing, balanced 12 fret upper horn, and full fret access are also thoughtful touches with the end user in mind.

So many builders these days are either artists or engineers but it's rare to find someone that is in both camps. Your creations are as well engineered for the end user as they are artistic and pleasing to the eye.

Excellent job!

:) Thanks for your kind words George -

I mounted single string bridges on a piece of aluminum. These were only about $25 (for all 4) on Amazon. They are nowhere near Babicz quality and I did have to clean up the threads on the Allen screws to get them working smoothly. But they do the job of anchoring the strings and allowing for height/intonation adjustments.

Added benefit of the $99 paint job is for that price they also paint the tires and windows to match.

Don't they offer to speed the drying time with a thorough gunny sack rubbing......
