Thunderbird Club

Appears to be a 2017 by the serial #. If it's a good price, grab it. You could always (A) return it, or (2) have it refinished some day. At least it hasn't done a lot of traveling.
oh, the price on the link isn't what they gave me

That is a beautiful VP.
I know, even if I'm not into Alpine White, I think I can live with it. And I love how it's sound with overdrive

thank you for the information. Sorry to hear about their lost :(

thank you for the information. This is the link, could ypu check it for me? [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

it was made in September 2017, so definitely a Vintage Pro and not the newer 60s Bass version. Looks like a rosewood fretboard to me, I have an Indian Laurel fretboard P Bass and it’s much lighter than that.

It's a national holiday here and I go to the shop (again) today. So the ebony is out of stock and they're still looking for the sunburst. But, the Alpine White one still have a rosewood fingerboard. I'm confused, the VP should be on laurel, right? On another note, I love the sound of neck pickup solo and tone off with stock strings. I think I'm into VP more now
I probably use that tone setting 75% of the time, works great, sounds fantastic.

If the thunderbird you want to buy is the exact one in the link - grab it before it's gone. That's a first year run VP. Made in September of 2017 and the 389th one that year from factory #23. I have a July 2017 Ebony VP that was the 64th one from the same factory. IIRC the first year run had slightly different tuners than the following years and the fretboard is a bit darker than the newer ones. It's a very sweet bass in a hard to find color.

For future reference here's the guitar dater link for Epiphone...

You're right about that.
The last car I considered doing a full repaint on was a 1974 Corvette coupe in 1984. At the time, a full factory quality paint job was going to run about $10,000 and that was without any fiberglass repairs. If I wanted a concours level custom paint job it was up around $15,000.

Needless to say, I didn't do either. Ended up selling the car in 1988 for about $8000 and used the money to by a top of the line Apple Macintosh II computer with a whopping 4 meg of RAM and 40meg hard drive, a 12" 16bit color monitor, a laser printer and a 40meg tape back up drive. Fast forward a few years and the Corvette was worth about $15,000 and the computer system was worth basically nothing. Lesson learned, always buy with the resale in mind.

I used to drive a Vette...A Chevette. :)

His hardtop '66, this car is a complete factory restoration, down to the dealer option page taped to this inside of the driver's side window. The metal and paint are flawless, the rear pillar styling is simply stunning, this car won a Concourse gold ribbon at the GTO National show.

Oh yeah, there it is. Love those 66-67 GTOs.

Reminds me of my old '65 LeMans!
Wish I'd have held on to that one...

Technically, the GTO was a just an optional package of the LeMans in '65 still. '66 was the first year as an individual model, if I remember correctly.

Firebird fun with Heart and the Foo Fighters.

Great clip! Love her vocals. And from a guitar standpoint there's some really cool stuff on that stage - a Gibby Firebird, a Gibby Flying V, a Gibby ES335 hollow body, and a Gibby SG. It's a shame the bass player isn't sporting a Gibby product as well, would have sounded just as good (or better) and made the clip an epic Gibby fest.

Firebird headstock on the 335......Dave Grohl model.

Not that we talk about this too much here, but I always bring at least two basses to a show, why? Nobody wants to watch you change a string on a bass guitar (or any instrument for that matter), watch a pro do it with grace and hear some fantastic guitar playing as well.

He breaks a string around 2:54

Thunderbird + Tube Amp = Sonic Bliss!

different tuner? In a good or bad way? Yes that's the one on the link

Different tuners visually, not really noticeable unless you see them side by side. Functionally, they both work excellent. I personally prefer the look of the first model year tuner and the look of the first model year fretboard. The one in your link is a phenomenal bass at a phenomenal price, don't pass it up.

If we had the whole night like you do (multiple sets) I would consider bringing a second bass, probably a fretless. All the gigs here are multiple bands per night and 45min sets @. I have never broke a string while playing and don't think I ever will - I just don't play that hard, especially with my current bands. Bringing a second small, easy to include amp (like my TC Electronics 250) for sure as I have had an amp fail mind-set.

I know local bandleaders who will not hire you if you don’t bring an extra bass and (preferably) amp..

yeah, going to tell the store tomorrow. I think, it's very strange. First I want a NOS CP, but it's sold out. Then I want an ebony or sunburst VP, but it's sold out. Turns out I found a hidden gem, am I?
