Thunderbird Club

Decided to put an order in for one of these back in January. Just came in today. I've never purchased a bass brand new before and so far I am quite happy with it! New stage bass for my shoegaze band:

 That's the first one here, I think. Gorgeous. They didn't even try to do that color justice in online photos.

Thoughts with you Mike. Never had to deal with that so far, but had a bout with bladder cancer in 2019. Hope all's gonna be well.

Sorry to hear it, Mike. My bladder cancer was first diagnosed and treated in 2019 as well so I feel for you and what you're dealing with. How often have they been getting a look to make sure it hasn't returned?

Post op they wanted to get a look at my bladder every 3 months, then it went to 6 and last July, 2020, they pushed the next examination out to July 2021 and my appointment is for next Wednesday.

I'm not feeling too good about this appointment though since during my last physical, blood was present in my urine sample but who knows, maybe it's just my kidney stones causing that. I'll know Wednesday.

But hey, we have awesome Thunderbird basses to take our minds off these age related maladies.

That is the nice thing about motorcycles. The Triumph will get close to 40 mpg at even high street speeds. It gets as little as 16 mpg on the track.

I've only had my V-Rod since July 5th, my first motorcycle, and the best I can tell I'm getting 30 MPH mixed riding but mostly highway. It's a low slung BEAST with tons of glorious chrome! The mid-life crises thing is real!

16 is about what I get around town & to work....about 19-21 mpg on the freeway. But I could almost shove your Triumph in the back and carry it around :D

You must be a bit more gentle with your right foot than most. I get 15 MPH with my 5.3 liter Silverado crew cab mixed driving. I've never seen 20 even on a long road trip.

It goes in waves. BMW drivers are always trying to kill me. For a while, it was preppy, excessively clean cut blonde drivers in black Jettas. Gender didn't matter. Then it was young girls with pony tails in red hatchbacks. For the time being, it is middle aged Audi SUV drivers. And BMW drivers. They are always a problem. Usually male. Always bozos.
I have to amend my comment a bit as your post reminded me that everyone in a BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Audi is always doing that passing around here, as well as the proverbial "rice rockets" who cut traffic like...... Harley and old school bike riders (real bikers as in belong to a gang or have) stick close to the speed limit and are mindful (for several reasons!).

It's not Mahogany Monday, but to get back to Thunderbirds....

Hope it goes well Larry. I have a tiny bit of blood show up most every time, but the scope (grand tour up that direction) showed no problems a few years ago. Hopefully yours is one of those other many possibilities.

@KaraQ I have not been able to get a good pic of how nice the Epi CAR Bird looks. I have tried, but it hasn't worked out yet. They did a great job on these limited edition finishes.

That's not a metalflake?
You had a good morning then. While huge holes with Duane and Barry gone, they still put out some phenomenal music. I've always thought Dickie never got his dues. How many people could step in and take over leads by Duane--and play them as if he played them originally, then his playing is absolutely top shelf. His playing was so melodic. Then his song writing. He was not second fiddle to Duane in my book at all.

That's very cool quote from Duane. Cool and humble of him to say that. I even typed I thought Dickie was the better of the two, but thought my intelligence would be questioned (yet again!) so I deleted it. But it's something I've mentioned for years when talking about ABB. Not that Duane wasn't in a very special and limited zone of players, it's just that Dickie was as well.

Hoping for nothing but good news on Weds Larry.

Hey Larry, I'm pretty sure you're having the same tests I've been passing, will think of you on Wednesday, let us know how it went.

As for me, they had to take it out, that and a few other things. But I coped with it and things got gradually back to a new normal at the end of 2019, even got back with the band in January after a year away (they used a sub) and had a gig in March just before lockdown. Will have annual follow-ups for a while, but things are stable a this time. I had a check-up with a stoma care nurse yesterday and she likes what she's seeing. Lost 44 pounds since January (now at 209 from 253), would like to be around 205 (I'm 5'11"), so I'm in the best physical shape I've been since university, I take the bike out 2-3 days a week and for longer runs on weekend and slowly getting back to pre-op form.

One of the good things coming out of all of this (and there are quite a few): I always loved TBirds, but being fatter made them rather uneasy to play. About a month ago, this all changed, so I added the trans black Pro to my current bolt-on model last weekend and still am on the lookout for a Gibson in the locals. I've played nothing but Thunderbirds since, I sent the Pro to a luthier Monday, she might get back today or tomorrow.

Life is good and I'm appreciating it much more.

Cheers :)

Well, ultrasounds aren't good enough so yeah, the camera snake where you never thought possible. :woot:

They removed your bladder? Jeez... I'm sorry to hear that. A coworker of mine has had half of his removed but he is stable now. I don't even want to think about going down that road. That's really rough... so sorry.

Good for you, Mike! Great attitude and great results from all the changes you've made and glad that the Thunderbirds and your bike are getting the workouts they deserve!

I often say that you don't have 100% control over what happens to you, but you do control how you react to it. I decided I was still playing bass, gigging when possible, biking and doing other stuff that's important and most importantly taking care of the people I love. The rest... whatever :-).
