And here I thought I was the only one thinking about ways to cover the logo .

Honestly, I thought I would hate the logo, but it's not that bad. It's kind of like a Trini Lopez headstock. What I'm realizing with this bass is that it's its own thing. Gibson doesn't appear to have any desire to make a vintage accurate reproduction. I mean, let's face it, pretty much EVERY detail is different than the model it was based on. The headstock is smaller, the tuners are smaller, the logo is not on the truss rod, the pickguard is shaped differently, the neck pickup is further away from the bridge, it's using a 3-point bridge, the pickups have ceramic magnets. They could have very easily not done all of these things, but they did. Which suggests to me that this is their attempt to re-invent the instrument. (Not saying that it's for the better)

You might also find that it's not that big of a deal when you see it in person. If not, then I eagerly await to see what you do to make the instrument look closer to it's 60s counterpart. :)
Thank you for that TL comparison! For the life of me could not tell why that headstock seemed so familiar!!..

To my eyes, the 2021 NR Gibby Bird looks more like a 2013 Reissue than anything else. And that’s not a bad thing, I’ve been wanting one of those as well. I just need to wrap my mind around that logo location. To me, it’s less noticeable on the blue and green birds because of the lighter headstock color and more noticeable on the dark red headstock.

All that said, I like the pup selection and location (the combo should offer a bit darker tone than the originals I assume). Love all the chrome hardware vs the 2013 black hardware approach. The pick guard doesn’t seem that different to me until I see it side by side with an original. The control layout makes sense to me if you thread your cable through the strap like most players do. The hip shot ultra lights are a welcome feature for any bass to reduce weight on the neck end, and the colors are all fantastic. I can’t wait to hear a report back from someone that gets the 2021 and has a 2013 to compare it to.

I see that the ‘21 NR looks ‘different’ than a vintage NR, but I think it looks great. Slightly different, but great. I didn’t see any marketing about an era correct vintage reissue, so I’m not fussed, personally. There’s a romance about gear that’s still working and sounding great after 50+ years that I love and understand and if it has certain unique properties to the owner, that’s a win. But odds are there is gear being made right now that will be coveted 50 years from now. Just saying I’m hopeful these new NR’s will be rad because I think they look awesome :)
With you Duke. They look great to my eyes.

I use Reaper for practice. Load each song into its own track, mute all except the one you’re practicing, right click on the track and open the properties window. There you can adjust time/pitch (among many other things) as well as apply EQ and other effects.
I set up a separate file for each band/gig I’m practicing for.

Looking at this, free 60-day trial period. How intuitive is it ? Or is that 444-page user manual the way to go ? I'm using MP3 files.

I suspect that it is far more than is needed just for slowing down/pitch shifting etc. for learning a song. Amazing slower downer is $10 on Android, $15 on Apple (apple tax I guess) and $50 for Mac/PC (and doesn't include the ability to connect to spotify). Seems to me that the bargain is on Android. But others may differ - as @GonePlaid says - twitchy zone.

Does it isolate tracks ?

It’s free and fully functional even after the 60 days, but then you get a nag screen on startup.
MP3 files aren’t a problem.
It’s as intuitive as any other DAW, but they all involve some learning curve, especially if you’re not familiar with the terminology. It might be overkill for what you want to do.
I had to help my drummer friend get going with GarageBand yesterday.

Sometimes (and I have no idea if it is the case here) there is a date in the registration file that can be altered. Also, you can set your PC date way ahead before installing then reset your date afterwards. I have no idea if they have protected against these types of hacks. I take no responsibility for anyone messing up their computer trying to get "free" software; if you are using software, you should pay for it.

Yep, I'm looking forward to mine very much, I'll fish around for a bridge cover at some point and change the knobs, I have a spare set of SITs on hand already. Woot!

If the logo location bothers you that much, you could get a used 2013 and swap out the hardware.

I wouldn’t bother. The nag screen comes up and you just click “No”. They don’t throttle down any functionality. It’s a very good value at $60 USD anyway.

That’s an option. Over the last few years I foolishly passed on several opportunities to get a used 2013 for under $1200. Now it seems like you can’t touch them for under $1500 (if you can even find one). Add the cost of chrome tuners ($100) chrome bridge ($100) chrome cans or China buckers ($100) a chrome bridge cover and hard tail ($100) and you’re quickly bumping $1900 and exceeding the cost of a new 2021. If I go either route it’ll be used and hopefully under $1500 all in. In which case the 2021 in faded PB is looking mighty good, just need to get in the game after the flippers and speculators deplete the early run inventory, but before a Gibson discontinuation announcement sometime in 2022. Anymore it seems like getting a good deal on a bird is 50% timing and 50% luck.

Of course there’s always the hope that Eppi will put out something similar to the VP in NR for under $1000. Fingers crossed.

when is yours due to arrive? got any up and coming Sac trips?

I'm guessing in a couple weeks. Haven't received anything firm; when I check the website with my order number it comes back as still in processing. I'm envisioning the Sweetwater shipment going by barge up the Cumberland River.

No Sacto trips scheduled at this point.
