Thats pretty clever.
I’m sure luthiers (and others) must have plenty of off cuts available for that kind of stuff. They use some of that for biscuits so why not TRCs ?

It’s almost 17% wider. My fingers notice these things.

1 5/8 = 13 eighths.
1 1/2 = 12 eighths.

13/12 = 1.08333

8.3% wider.
