I express my admiration for him as 'the real deal' (songwriter/singer-performer) even if I really only 'like' a few of the songs he wrote/performed. I feel this way about many of the "giants" of pop like Sinatra, Martin, Bennett and many others from those 'golden years' of pop. I get more head-over-heals over someone like Scott Walker, but even with him I still respect many of the songs he delivered (a lot) even if they are not my favorites.

The problem with hit-makers like ND is their songs got played to death! I'd like Steely Dan more if "Ricky Don't Lose That Number" wasn't played 3 times every hour for months.

Neil Diamond wrote many classic songs and recorded a number himself that I love. Hard for me to slag the Diamond.

That's the one thing I recall him singing that I actually liked. Not a lot, but I liked it.
