yep, same here, like horsepower, (same thing really) big deal back then…..today people don’t flinch at a 2000 Watt rig or a 700 hp car…I think the thing that caught my eye more than anything when I was young was: 300 watts!

I've always liked this one too.

LOL - I’d like to see Neil Young and Ted Neugent stranded on a desert island with two power feeds, two massive rigs and two guitars. They could each spend the rest of their lives driving each other even more crazy than they already are.![]()
oh no!…not this again!……I've been listening to the Neil Young Channel a lot lately on SiriusXM, that guy can write, I'll tell you that.
That would be quite the duel.![]()
Don’t mention Neil Young. I did a minute ago, but I think I got away with it.oh no!…not this again!……![]()

What's that top bass? Very cool.
Man, trying to keep up with this place after even one day is hell!![]()
Bob, it's not me that thinks there's about 50 subjects going on at once?
Thunderbird Club should be it's own forum...in my imagination...
One of my custom medium-scale basses - the Calabroni.

I know for sure that I have spent more on the Flamingo than I'll ever get out of it. And if I put $750 into the VP, plus shipping, I'll be way upside down on any sales price because a repaint doesn't make it worth all that much more. It might make it worth less. Not that I care all that much. I have a lot more than it's worth in a 1985 Korean Squier Bullet guitar that's the bizarre four way love child of a Telecaster, Les Paul, Stratocaster, and ES175. I like it and play it when I want to play an electric guitar. Price didn't matter much. I got the guitar in bags for $50 or so and then spent a lot of money on it. If I end up spending money on the VP it will be to make it what I want in an idiosyncratic way that's got nothing to do with what I might be able to sell it for. I still haven't decided whether I like it enough to spend buckets of money on it. I think the fretless Thunderbird, which is also a non-economic project, is a more likely refinish project.I’ve always looked at it a bit differently. I’ll spend as much on as bass as I think I can get out of it if I ever decide to sell. So getting a great deal on a Tbird gives me that much more money I can spend on it to make it even better or to personalize it.
It seems to me that bass finishing has gotten more expensive over the last year or two. The finish job on the BlingBird was top notch but cost about $750. Pat Wilkins does some of the best work in the business, so I didn’t mind paying a premium and would absolutely go back there again. The holoflash finishes on that website look great and are pretty much in line cost wise with other places I looked. I was considering the red holoflash on my next build or mod.
That's similar to my ACC 360/361 story. I actually have been through several other ACC stacks, and ended up selling or trading them for far more than I paid. I kinda miss the 320/408 stack that was even bigger than a 'Fridge.Say no more! I have wanted a Coliseum too and especially that old first version. I blame Entwistle.
At least I had a good sense to buy the 1977 Hiwatt DR103 in 1997 for a fraction of a price they go now. And when I started to look for an old cheap but reliable solid state head as a spare I initially thought I'd end up with a Peavey Mark III or IV or similar (not that there's anything wrong with those) but eventually got a Lab Series L2 for a ridiculous price. Now I have another L2 and an L4 too. Superb amps, they have never let me down tone- or volumewise.
A thing of beauty, Scott!Well I think I'm done messing with the 2021 Nonreverse. Now equipped with a Epiphone 760 Probucker in the neck position and the last of my Badbird II bridges. These changes have turned this bass into a monster. The 760 has a noticeably higher output and grittier tone to the stock pickups and the bridge definitely increased sustain. I am adjusting to the wider nut and long for a bigger headstock. Don't laugh a friend of mine builds classical stringed instruments and when I told him I think in part tone lives in the headstock he whole heartedly agreedI hope to have some live footage soon.View attachment 4574597 View attachment 4574598 View attachment 4574599 View attachment 4574600 View attachment 4574601 View attachment 4574602
That doesn't bother me, I actually kind of like that, just the sheer volume of pages from day to day is amazing.
