Thunderbird Club

While I acknowledge that that's the combination heard on so many iconic records, if those recordings had been made with a Harmony semi-acoustic through a (insert no-name) amp, then that's what "everybody" woulda bought. Plus, lazy engineers could leave their consoles set for "P>B-15" and worry about other [stuff]. JMNSHO.
Are you telling us people are just lazy? Not that I find it hard to believe, I am just surprised that it needs saying at all.

Just reiterating(echoing, retweeting, being redundant, repeating myself).:smug:
Seriously, the only pro studio recording(Criteria in Miami) I ever did, the engineer wanted me to plug into a jack on the wall. I said "Nope. Mic my amp". He wasn't thrilled but he did it.

Always wanted a Thunderbird, and kinda accidentally just bought one (late night lowball offer on Reverb that was accepted).
Now what are the options on replacing that ugly black hardware with chrome?

Congratulations! Nice accident. There are multiple options. Were it mine, and I wanted to chrome it out, I’d look to Thunderbucker Ranch for the pickups. But you can peel off the black plastic on those that are on it and put them in chrome covers. I’d replace the bridge with a chrome Babicz and the tuners with vintage looking Hipshots as opposed to chrome Y tuners.

You’ll no doubt receive a lot of other ideas from the club.

You left out "paint it blue".;)

Three pics of my vinyl collection.Thank/blame JIO...
Lots of prog rock, maybe too much. I hardly have time or place to listen to my LP's (small kids...) so it's mostly cd's in a car when driving alone. CD's are good too, especially since they're not in vogue right now.

But it's T-Bird Tuesday isn't it? I installed new strings and if somebody can't tell from the picture they are D'addario Pro Steels. Very bright. Sound good to me but probably ain't enough to save the beast from the sea of mud to which it (neck)dives eventually...

Cool. Here are a couple pics of what my wife calls “the toxic waste dump.” I’m actually in the process of going through my cds to move them to the other house because we’re capped on data usage so I can’t stream Spotify there all day like I do here. Also looking into a table for up there so I can flip some vinyl.

Hipshot makes some nice small clovers but I don't think they list them on their website, you may have to call for the specific item number. If you can find a real Gibson 3 points it's your best choice as a drop in replacement, you may see some Epiphone versions out there, they have some slight differences but will work, I'm not a fan of the Allparts clone.
There are lots of chrome repro pickups out there, EY Guitars, Thunderbucker Ranch, Lollar, Seymour Duncan and Lull - and you could "skin" the plastic off of the Gibson pickups and pot them into new covers.

Happy to add you to the club, just let me know.

Entirely unrelated....I was at work and talking with the secretary. She was telling me about a program she watched about a writer (Dorothy Kilgallen) who had been investigating JFKs assassination and who out of the blue "took her life." This was highly unlikely. Anyway, I'm pulling up Youboob and one of the suggestions for me was a 2 hr documentary about.....Dorothy Kilgallen. I have never even searched or looked for anything related to JFK, and don't recall ever hearing of this writer. Big Tech is listening, so if you ever say anything about Thunderbird's neck diving or anything negative about Thunderbirds, there is a record of it somewhere maybe even some whack job's computer or laptop.

I know this kind of thing happens as phones are always listening, same with Alexa, etc. For that reason I refuse to have one in my house. The phone is bad enough.

Dorthy Kilgallen was a regular panelist on the TV show "What's My Line".

Very eclectic collection! I could sit on the floor with some headphones on and run thru those records for hours at a time (except my back wouldn’t put up with it these days).

That's how I first learned to appreciate the Beatles when I was teen. I always liked their hits on the radio but didn't start collecting their LP's until Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt Peppers. My family were visiting friends in Colorado who had teen daughters and they had all the Beatles LP's. I stayed behind when they all went out to do something and spent hrs listening to all the albums that came before Rubber Soul.

It was also mandatory when visiting anyone who had a large record collection to scan it while there.

I have many opinions-some conflicting. Some I voice; some I don't; some I shouldn't have. I maintain my position of being firmly on the fence. Except when it concerns this old thing.
