Time to switch to Dunlop Super Brights!!!

Mine arrived in 2 days, which is normal for Bass Strings Online. But judging by this thread, he's sold a MASSIVE amount of Dunlop SuperBrights so he may be waiting to get more in from Dunlop. Just a guess. He always answers emails, vacation or not, so I have to wonder if your emails are getting through. You can always call or text him as well:

I've been using the SB Nickels for almost a year now, and they have been a dream to play. I've tried other strings from time to time, and I never had a set of rounds that lured me away from my previous favorite D'addario XL's, but these did. They feel very balanced with low tension, and the sound reminds me of Rotosound steels merged with XL's. I've really got no desire to use anything else anymore.

I am out of town dealing with a family issue. The guys are holding down the fort getting these shipped. I have been answering emails though? Not sure why you haven't received a reply.

My first impression with the Super Bright Nickel 40-100 on my Schecter Raiden Special-4 has been very good! They have a nice feel to them- springy, but not loose. Just right.

I will say I'm not loving the 40 G, nor have I loved the 40 G ProSteels on my 5er. That might be just a little too thin for me. Everything else feels great though so I'll suck it up.

I ordered two sets of Nickel 40-100 and one set of SS 40-100. I have one set of Nickel on my bass now, another set on back order from GC and the Steels will go on when I decide the Nickel are dead. So that won't be for a while.

I'm really enjoying the presence and punch of these strings so far.

My string history on this bass is as follows:

D'Addario Tapewounds-> Fender Flatwounds 45-100 -> Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats BEAD -> Dunlop Super Bright Nickel.

I missed having the G-String up top. I am really enjoying these Nickels so far and just might be a convert!

The SB's: they do "swing" a little farther than prosteels or XL's when you pluck them, but I didn't have to adjust my technique much when moving from XL170's- except that the feel is so much more even on the SB's, making them easier to play. The output balance through the pickup is also better.

With regard to the feel/tension- the actual tension may not be much lower, but the difference in the elasticity is felt under the fretting hand. I imagine that string two strings with equal diameter and mass (per unit length) can have a dramatically different feel if the ratio of core/wrap diameters and materials are different. This is why I try not to obsess (anymore) over balancing tension as much as having balanced feel and relative output of the strings.

Just grabbed a set of these as a backup seeing they were on sale at BSO and just noticed this thread! Hoping the feel and flexibility lies somewhere between DR Lo-Riders and Sunbeams, which are my go-to round. Figure since I'm doing a tronics swap on my Precision, it would be a good time to try something new. I'm not a big fan of D'Addario XL's at all, so I'm hoping they aren't too deep in that ballpark in any regard. Anyone have any experience with these on a Fralin equipped American Standard Precision?

No experience with the P, but compared to XL's the SuperBrights don't have that harsh/bright top end. They are cleaner, deeper, and crisper sounding....and lower tension of course.

I would say that if you are a DR fan, you will like these. They are a little rougher than DR's, but the flexibility feels very at home for me. I have been using DR's for 20 some years, Lo Riders, Hi Beams, Sun Beams just depends on the bass. I put a set of the SS SB's on my 62 AVRI Jazz on Tuesday and so far I am really liking them. I find them to be just slightly more punchy than DR's without not as much zing as Hi Beams, these are good things as far as I am concerned. As far as how they compare to D'Addarios, I think people use them for 1 of 2 reasons, they are cheap or they get an indorsement.

I actually liked D'addarios. Tried plenty of others and didn't think they had any advantage to D'addarios. The Dunlops are the first ones I've tried that do.

Sounds like we have similar taste in rounds. I'm liking what I hear as far as the flexibility goes and while I love the smooth feel of the tighter outer wrap of the DR's, I feel it can lose some of that sort of compressed "vintage" attack that some more traditional rounds can get. If these have the flex of DR with the feel of something more old school, I think I'll like them. I should have them in a day or two since BSO already has them en route.

So I played with them last night and they sound fantastic. Very clear, bright, great bottom and piano like. The D and G strings and even the A, would be better a little thicker. Would like a little more output from them.
