Time to switch to Dunlop Super Brights!!!

I just swapped the lite superbrite SS set for the mediums. I like the slight bit of control you get with the mediums over the soft feel of the lites. The mediums remind me of the feel of La Bella deep talikin rounds - not a bouncy soft feeling like hi beams but controlled with a give that makes them pleasant to play. The lites felt good too but I had to be a little too careful with them.

Just recieved the strings yesterday...they had to go on a tour trough USA untill they got here in Madrid. :)

Thanks Jason from BSO for the great service.

I also bought the Fretwrap in mid-size but was the worst buy ever. Gruv Gear say it´s for 5 strings basses....yeah right....the lenght it´s not right, it´s that small that when I try to pass it over the nut it simply opens. Yes, it´s the mid-size, I even took a ruler to see if it´s the right size. The nut on the Adamovic is 46 mm....but I even tried it with the yamaha wich is 43 mm and basically it´s a no-no. The 30 cent hair band works like a charm. I thought it should work better than a 30 cents hair band, after all it´s 9 dollar. I don´t say it´s much but I feel I´ve been scammed.

I've been using the SB Nickels for almost a year now, and they have been a dream to play. I've tried other strings from time to time, and I never had a set of rounds that lured me away from my previous favorite D'addario XL's, but these did. They feel very balanced with low tension, and the sound reminds me of Rotosound steels merged with XL's. I've really got no desire to use anything else anymore.

Exactly how I feel about them. Roto 66s are my favorite string, However I stopped using them because I felt the B string was pretty awful and they die way to fast. I was using Nickle XLs for the last 2 years but ever time I would order strings I would grab a pack of something else to try also. Never beet the XLs till I tried the nickle s.b. set. Im tempted the try the stainless set.

Well, I must preface this by saying, I am a really tough critic of strings. I have been a DR user for probably 25 years. I bought two sets of the SBs because of the price and because they seem to get some love around here (I should say that D'Addarios get love too, but for me there is nothing worse in the world than D'Addarios). Anyway, I put a set of the SB SS on my '62 AVRI Jazz and used it a gig last night and I can honestly say, HOLY CRAP, they sounded just awesome. This bass is pretty punchy for a Jazz and these strings accented that beautifully, plus the string to string balance sound wise is great. Of course, one of the reasons that I use DR's is that they last longer than just about any other string. So, we will see about the SBs, I am sure hoping that they last...

Really liking the 40-100 SuperBrights, they have such a deep, throaty punch! I'm VERY shocked how much I'm liking the .120 B string. There's a definite sweet spot on it, just forward of the neck pickup on my Roscoe where it has the same bright punch as all the other strings.

I have just installed the SB on my Adamovic today. Wow, indeed this strings have a very nice feel, tone and definition. And they have an initial "ping" that I really like and the note is surrounded by air (for the lack of describing it better). These are serious good strings. And the price is nice too.

And I wonder why is it the can call them 45-105. If there is some reduction due to compression winding that makes sense but a full size difference?

Yes, that's the way it was explained to me anyway. The gauge measurement is done before winding using the sum of the materials to be used. They are not shooting for a specific number, but a specific feel and tension.

I get your description of the note being surrounded by air. I hear a similar sound from Daddario XLs.

Got it. An approximation of feel then? To me the mediums feel much nearer to 40-100 than 45-105. It was useful to see Narud's measurement confirming that. I guess I don't get Dunlops point of reference. I'm not bashing them just questioning the size reference. If I was to comparatively shop for the lighter gauge in other brands I would attain a closer feel and sound.

Its unfortunate that they don't have a heavier gauge. If they did I'd expect a much closer feel to other 45-105 strings.

Yeah I wish I could remember the whole conversation I had with the Dunlop rep when I contacted them about the strings feeling smaller than what the package said...which I was fine with because I loved them so much. I just wanted to make sure to order the same/right thing next time. It made perfect sense to me at the time, but if I tried to explain it now it would sound like a load of BS so just trust me :)

He also sent me some 50-110 SuperBrights but I haven't got a chance to try them yet..not sure which bass I want to put them on!

My dozen SB NPS sets and 4 matching C stings are now in my hands in my Niagara NY hotel. I feel like I stole them!;)

I have used SBs on a few of my basses and loved them. At the BSO sale price these are a complete no brainer. I am happy that I am now ensconced in strings for at least a year..... And for $130-is for TWELVE x 5 string sets and some C strings! Sorry, I don't know of any other 5 string set that can be had for $12. Even the worst house brands are more than that!

Ok ok, I'll trust you. You steered me right on Foderas so your credibility is good with me. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the 50-110 when you get around to trying them out. Would love to hear them on a passive P.
