Has there been a `Gibson is`or `Rickenbacker is` etc thread or are these things reserved for Fender only because the vast majority recognise a good thing when they see it

You've told multiple people they were wrong when they said there are better basses out there, and that one day they'd figure it out. Quite a few of the biggest names in studio recording (Kaye, Stubenhaus, Jackson, Clarke, etc.) haven't used Fenders in decades. You're making it sound like you know something they don't, or that they're wrong in finding basses they find better than Fenders.
With something as simple as an electric bass, I would say that 'better' is rather subjective. I have a really excellent Fender. And a really excellent Modulus. I would simply say that they are 'different.'

Well lets admit it guys, there are a few people who hate Ford, Microsoft, Coca Cola, Frigidaire, Schwinn, Fender and the USA just because they are successful.
If we did a poll I wonder how many of them play 'boutique' brands? Now I'll admit it, I dislike boutique basses because they're kinda snooty....

For me, Fenders are the reliable basses that may not always sound the greatest when played alone but often sound great in a band mix.
For me:
P bass - Rock, Alternative, Soul, Blues, Rockabilly, Country
J bass - Blues, R&B, Funk, Jazz standards, Reggae
I just need to make a J bass with a P neck for my fat fingers

That interpretation is your own short sightedness. Everyone should play what they like.
I can understand others wanting something else...botique basses, EB3s, Rics, Stingrays, Bootsy's bass, etc...because they might want something different (especially different tonal responses, or neck style).

Not saying I won't but if it infects people with some the poor attidutes I see in this thread, then I wouldn't want one...
Not against people sing praise for products they love but attitudes like turock's just turns me off to the whole brand. 'Tis a shame too since I've got a lot of respect for them.

I understand. It's so easy these days for us to post a billion opinions on every conceivable topic that sometimes we get carried away.
Fortunately I'm fat enough that getting carried away isn't really an option.
And I can't run.
So I've learned to moderate myself a bit.

I haven't read the whole thread, but to me there is an obvious reason that Fenders have been copied relentlessly for soooo many years. That is, as I heard Flea say once, Leo "created the coolest looking bass on the planet." There is no need to f*** with perfection. ! I have owned a lot of different basses at all levels and there are 4 brands that I always seem to come back to: Ibanez (my first real bass in the 70's, so sentimental), Pedulla (best necks I have ever played), MM (best sounding) and Fender J or J based (my RB IV is an unreal piece of art) (best overall sounding and feeling basses). Every time that I think about how well designed Fender basses were 50 and 60 years ago it blows my mind. And, they were designed without the availability of roundwound strings, that 90% of the world uses, which only makes the basses even better!
You should apologize. After all, it was your shortsighted interpretation.

This thread is totally out of control. Fender basses are an american staple and Leo was an incredible mind and set the stage for everything since. But to disagree that there are better instruments is downright silly, Turock you're out numbered so go home.
