First, how do you steal an influence? Is Tool the only band to allowed to be influenced by some of the most popular bands in the world? And what exact ideas has he stolen from Tool? This is particularly interesting seeing as how Ben's been doing his music as long as Tool's been around, and Tool themselves have said they stole half of their ideas from King Crimson :rollno:

Exactly how much of Ben's music did you manage to listen to in the four minutes after I posted that you should hear his stuff that gives you the idea that he needs inspiration from the next Tool album?

How is it ******** to say Aenima was their last good album if that's how he feels? Unless you can come up with some scientifically tracable evidence to prove otherwise, your opinion is no more valid than his. I know a lot of guys that share the same opinion. Tool's my favorite band and it doesn't bother me- why would it bother you? Seriously- you act like you're being injured here. He doesn't dig a lot of what they do, he has the musical knowledge and experience to have his opinion bear weight, and his opinion is completely different from yours. What's hard to accept about that?

Just for the record, don't subscribe to any threads if your feelings are going to get hurt by people who have intelligent opinions that are different than yours. And what makes a critic "jealous"? I guess by that definition, if you don't like Britney Spears' music, then you're really just jealous of her and her music? :eyebrow:

LIke i said bryan R. tyler i subscribed to share my love of Tool not my hatred of everything else this became...

Im not injured but shocked of the lack of support for TOOL...thats all...but then again People have always scrutinized great bands just like this...

and by the way ben strange i must first say I LIKE your music...but i hear a lot of TOOL chords in it..but thats a good thing really


And when are the TOOL fans Gonna comment on this thread???

You mentioned in the previous post that Fripp himself (Which I would like to see quoted) said that Tool is the modern King Crimson/Pink Floyd. THEN you go on to say that Ben is ripping off Tool... after listing a couple of Tool's influences?

Tool didn't pull all their ideas out of their third eyes (ha) they brought together collective influences to create their sound. A LOT of people have been influenced by Tool's influences... even predating Tool's existence.

All these Hardcore Tool fans need to get over themselves. Or maybe they're right: Tool's music is too smart-like for us, duuuuuuuhh.

I'm going to go back to dragging my knuckles on the ground and drinking anti-freeze mixed with vodka (taste-eee).

Why shocked? What sort of "support" do they need at this point? If you mean people to disagree with the opinions that have been given, then what's the point in that? It wouldn't make people believe them any less.

What chords did Tool invent? :D :D :D Seriously, whatever you've heard in their music has been played before in one manner or another. It's just their particular combination of these elements that make them who they are, just like any other band. If you've heard enough music, then you've heard a lot of what they've done already.

And when are the TOOL fans Gonna comment on this thread???

I think you have misread me. I like Tool, but I think their best work is behind them. I'm a huge fan of Paul D'Amour - his sound, his playing, and his work post-Tool.

I don't see how my website is Tool inspired, when I have never seen the Tool site. I just took a picture of a flower, inverted the colors, and used that as my backdrop of my site.

I really liked Ainema (although my favorite is Undertow). If not liking Lateralus and 10,000 Days makes me ********, then you can call me Corky.

I did see Tool on their Lateralus tour - because Meshuggah was opening for them. I was not impressed this time around. I saw them much earlier, when they were touring for Undertow, and I was blown away. Yes, Danny Carrey is a good drummer - I'm not arguing that.

As far as myself needing inspiration, or using "Tool chords"... sorry, but that's just lame. Tool uses the same chords as everybody else, only less of them (most of their stuff is simply power chords). I don't understand how my stuff could be seen as Tool inspired - especially since my last two albums were nothing but microtonal ambient stuff and musique concrete, and my upcoming record is solo acoustic stuff. I've never heard Tool do stuff like that.

I think I have an open mind. I like some of Tool's stuff. I want them to make better music than what they have been making lately. I just don't think that I or anybody else has to be special, or hyper-intelligent, nor have their "third eye opened" just to appreciate their music. If that offends you, then perhaps you're not as open minded as you would like to think you are.

I personally don't see why people hate 10,000 days so much, I think it's a great album. Just because some of the songs have more conventional themes does not make it crap. It makes it different. I love both and to date have not heard a single bad album or even song by Tool.

Also for the next album I don't want another Lateralus (which I want to point out, I love). I want them to do what they want. I don't think Tool would be anywhere near as good if they did the same thing every album.

If the next album comes sooner I'll be very happy, but I think they should take their time and I'm sure they will.

Ben, since you're so into Paul's stuff, any idea what's going on with him? I've got the Feersum Ennjin EP, but everything I've seen says that project never got anywhere. Do you know what he's up to?

I haven't heard anything about it, either. I can't blame the guy for not getting it off the ground, though - it's hard as hell getting the right band together and to put a decent album out. I've been in bands that took upwards of 7 years to release an album... The Feesum Ennjin EP is really good, for what is essentially a demo.

I've seen Pygmy Love Circus when they were opening for King Crimson. Danny was good, but overall the band was pretty weak, and kind of annoying. Kudos to him for doing something abrasive and unexpected, though.
