Top 5 "Bucket List" basses

I would like a real '60's Mustang Bass, in red if possible, as close to mint as I can afford. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with the AVs and other basses that I already own.

I have a bass that's a 1977 Stingray body with a 1980 Sabre neck. I hope to be able to find a period-correct neck and body for each of them, so I end up with a "correct" 1977 Stingray and a "correct" 1980 Sabre.

  • Maybe a fretless Warwick
That's about it for now. Being a huge Rush fan, I always wanted a Ric, but all of them I have ever tried just don't play or feel too nice so I don't think I'd actually enjoy one.

This is a fun post!

I’m pretty happy with what I have (a couple of Rics, a couple of G&Ls, a Warwick and a MusicMan). It’s only human nature to want something else.

1). Dingwall Z-3
2). Custom Warwick Thumb SC
3). Serek Sacramento
4). Ric 4003 five string
5). Sadowsky NYC

Anyone know who owns this?

I sincerely wish I still felt this enthusiastic about gear. I've owned dozens of basses, and at this point, there's really not one that wows me enough to put it on any sort of bucket list. There's a few basses I'd like to check out just because I never have, but that's it. I think I've just had too many disappointments over gear that wasn't all I thought it would be to really still have a kid-on-Christmas kind of excitement for anything.

I just got a new P-Bass delivered by FedEx a couple days ago, and the box sat unopened for several hours because I simply forgot to open it. Today I got a Strat delivered and after opening it and making sure it wasn't damaged, I leaned it up against my amp and haven't touched it since. When I was younger, I would've been dying to get these, would've cleaned them up (well, the used Strat anyway), set them up, taken photos, posted all about them, etc.

I even went to NAMM without playing a single instrument. Not one...

I really do wish I still had that passion you guys all seem to have.

1. Sadowsky NYC
2. G&L Custom Shop
3. EBMM Stingray
4. Fender USA P Bass
5. Gibson Thunderbird

My list is nearly complete. Stingray and G&L are in process. I want a T-Bird and as much as I would love it to say "Gibson" on the headstock, the Epiphones are a much better value and seem to have higher quality control standards.

The Epi Vintage Pro is an awesome value, but higher quality control standards? Not really. I own a couple recent model Gibson T Birds. Fit, finish and setup were impeccable. Played 3 Epi Vintage Pro’s. One was awesome, one ok and one terrible. Don’t like the finish work, but that is nitpicking and at their best they’re awesome basses.
