Top bassists who use a pick

i listen to almost all metal so i only have decent knowledge of metal bassists (meaning beyond names), and i know that justin chancellor (tool), josh campbell (lamb of god), and byron stroud (fear factory/zimmers hole/strapping young lad) all use picks. ive seen live videos where james lomenzo (bls/megadeth) uses a pick, but ive also seen videos (music video for 'never walk alone') where he uses fingers
personally, i dont look at using a pick as a different technique as much as i look at it as a way to get a different tone/sharper attack. i mainly use my fingers, but sometimes using a pick is fun

Yep....John played with a pick in the "early" days (not sure about later) but did, for the most part, go strictly with fingers later on...
As for me....I use both. Fingers on the Fender J - pick and fingers on the Fender P - and strictly a pick on my Ric....

I've even borrowed a pick from him the night he showed us his new Kramer bass waaaayyy back in--I think--'79. He was trying to start a new band with Randy California--drummer from Spirit, and we were all together at Ron Bushy's studio in Northridge, CA.

Not sure if we can call him a great but Tim from The Fall Of Troy. Not sure if the new bass player Frank Black uses one or not.

He is my biggest idol. He has amazing speed and accuracy. Not to mention one of the best pick tones (IMO) ever.
