Tort guard hate?

Salami belongs on sandwiches. Pepperoni belongs on pizza. Putting a slab of semi-digested meat product on the front of a poor, defenseless, and undeserving instrument that would have been far better off without it is just flat out abuse of a bass guitar. Tort makes your dog run off with your best friend. Tort makes your favorite book morph into a language you can't understand. Tort causes bacon to taste like tofu. Just don't do it! Oh, the humanity!

This is almost poetic ;)

I like tort fine on some basses/ with some colors, but I'm too plain to put it on my own bass. I like anodized pickguards though, I feel like there aren't enough of them right now. Only ones I can think of are the Motor Avenue guitars and a few vintage reissue Fenders ('54 P reissue I think).

Tort is against human rights!

Apologies if this has been covered ad naseum here, but I’m new to the fold and lazy about searching, so here goes: why all the tort guard hate? Personally, I’ve always been a huge fan of tort guards; probably my favorite guard option. Am I in the minority? Lay it on me, TalkBass, what say y’all?

It's funny...

In the late 70's, as pre and early teenager, I hated them, as well as sunbursts, maybe because most cheap copies seemed to have both.

In 2018, at 52, I really think both look great, even together.

Tastes change!
