Total solar eclipse 2017 - official thread

Bogus Amazon glasses???

Yes. Amazon sold eclipse glasses that were fakes or at least the manufacturer failed to confirm that they had proper certification when asked. These were their top selling glasses, so headache (or worse) for all involved. I got two emails telling me to throw them away and that my account would be refunded. Replacement glasses would have been a more welcome solution.

So a friend gave me a pair - don't know where he got them. Is there any way one can tell??

Please let us know as soon as possible. I can only run so fast. I may have to drive north, even though it would be dangerous to drive without eclipse glasses.

It's no better up here. Eclipsesteria is running rampant through the population with hordes of people gathering in large fields wearing funny oddball expensive eclipse glasses and staring skyward.

Rumor has it that aliens may appear.

This summer has been so sunless that the idea of the sun disappearing yet again just doesn't seem very interesting to me.

Watching the NASA station. They showed a pinhole projector using a simple kitchen colander. That made a cool enough projected image it may even interest the kids enough to put their IPads down. I will be hijacking the wife's colander. That should insure Armageddon at my house.
