It's a little less room in the ole grey matter computer for reality T.V. to eek it's way into. That, is kinda like saving a life. A brain cells life.
That was neat, the sun is now back to full in Oregon. Them squiggly shadow snakes were fun. 
We were 98% here and it got no darker than if we were under heavy cloud cover like with a thunder storm.
That... but we still had shadows which was kind of cool though.
As long as a bit of sun is peeking through, not much darkening will happen.
We also had a bit of high overcast, but could still see things fine with the glasses.
We did experience a noticeable drop in outdoor air temp.
If you are comparing to how dark it got in totality on TV, then remember that TV cameras are not as sensitive as our eyes. So it may have looked darker on TV than it would if you were there. Fortunately the TV crews had the foresight to run cameras in manual iris so they would not try to auto adjust for low light levels.

That is exactly how my picture turned out. I gave it one shot, then sat back and enjoyed the black hole.
I shot about 20 of them shadow snakes, I guess that was enough to weaken their Army.
We joined my wife's brother out inthe country. Man is an avid photographer. So we should be set up with some killer photos.....in hindsight I wish I would have brought my binoculars for totality

A nice family let me borrow their glasses to view the eclipse with them. Overall, I thought it was pretty cool, and I was viewing it from Tampa.
Obviously, the day didn't turn to night in my neck of the woods, but I thought the moon's coverage of the sun gave a different kind of color to the day than that of any cloud coverage I've seen.
For what it's worth, my pinhole box didn't work too well.

Above the house with no filter, you can see the small eclipsed image mirrored just above the roof.

It was fun being in the streets with small groups of people gathered on each corner and open space. It was a party in goofy glasses. Oh, and the eclipse was very cool too.
