Totally irrelvant TBer info share thread

What can I say? EEs don't play around!

Also, it wasn't a taser. Taser is a brand (or maybe model) name for a gun that shoots electrodes that stick to your skin or clothing. This device was a small plastic box loaded with capacitors with two copper leads coming out of it.

We used to think it was great fun in the engineering lab to daisy chain a bunch of DC power supplies together to get 300VDC or so, and charge up electrolytic caps. Then we'd toss them to people walking in the door. Everyone catches the first one............

Oooo fun. Some of mine are similar to what I've already read here, but hey, I'll pretend I'm interesting.

- I've never had stitches or broken bones even though plenty of times I probably should have had stitches, and might have had a hairline fracture or two.

- Since 2003 I've had a short term memory problem, apparently from a concussion sustained in a motorcycle accident (even then no broken bones!). It's gotten way better in the past year though, thank god.

- I play instruments and sports right-handed, but I write, eat, etc left-handed.

- I was born with hemorrhaging in the brain and one functional lung. (I got bettah!) ....and my sister was born with one kidney, which nobody knew until she was about 20. We were both premature babies; my sister was 2 lbs and change. And no, mom wasn't a big drinker and has never touched drugs (I don't think she ever even smoked cigarettes).

- I switched from guitar to bass at about the age of 18, specifically to learn the bass parts to Rush tunes. I'm still working on that, over 20 years later =0)

- Remember the Oliver North scandal in the 80s (edit: it was Iran-Contra), and his secretary, Fawn Hall, who shredded all those documents? My paternal grandfather's second wife was Hall's grandmother. (Fawn had a BIG house, last I remember...)

- I *also* tend to count stairs when I'm running down them

- I am deathly terrified of flying, and will opt to drive instead if the drive is under ~12hrs. And when I do fly, the accumulation of experience makes the fear worse rather than better.

I used to stick several straight pins through a ping pong ball and take it to school and when class change happened, I'd toss that sucker up in the air. Hilarity always ensued.

I went to high school in the late nineties and the bottoms of everyone's jeans were frayed with strands of fabric hanging off. In class, kids would often light another kids frayed strands on fire. Someone did it to me once so I punched him in the arm and his head knocked into the wall. We both got detention.
