I went to high school in the late nineties and the bottoms of everyone's jeans were frayed with strands of fabric hanging off. In class, kids would often light another kids frayed strands on fire. Someone did it to me once so I punched him in the arm and his head knocked into the wall. We both got detention.
Before the desegregation period, one of my buddies got a match thrown on his Afro from the bathroom where everyone smoked. He looked like a candle walking down the hall.
We used to call him Crow because he was so black he looked purple. That would never fly these days.
