Traben Club, Level 2.

Hi everyone !

Nice to see some Trabens, they are so rare... mine is the only one I have ever seen IRL.

Here it is :

Array 5, defretted by its previous owner. I just did a bit of setting to get the strings as close to the fingerboard as possible, so comfortable to play on, and it sounds great !

I'd like to modify the electronics to make it passive (I don't like active basses, I prefer my preamps on the floor), and I'm considering changing the pickups as well. I like the sound of the of the stock ones, but I need to put all the knobs from the preamp to the maximum to get the same output level as my passive basses... not sure what to do.

Shouldn't really describe something mean and moody lookin as sweet but that's SWEET !! :roflmao:

Check to see if the pickups draw battery power, a feed will come off the battery clip. I don't think they do but worth checking first. If there's no feed them they are passive and you could still use them.

What about all those knobs ? Man you can have fun there :hyper: Master Volume, Blend, 2 x Tone. Make a Varitone for the 5th pot. If the MM is 4 wires then maybe a mini switch going series/parallel/tapped instead of the Varitone.

The pickups aren't connected to the battery, they are passive.

When it comes to filling the holes, I thought of putting Rickenbacker style electronics : pickup selector, 2 volumes, 2 tones, and mono/stereo output. But the Varitone is also something I consider.

Sadly the MM has only two wires, and I checked under it, doesn't seem possible to modify its wiring...

I just made a test : removed the battery, used a wire to bypass the preamp, and it works.

So yeah, the bass can work as passive. But the sound is disappointing, I have to boost the volume on my multieffect pedal way more than with another passive bass to get a satisfying sound. So considering that, plus the fact that it doesn't use that much battery (at least compared to my Sire), it will stay active, at least for now.

But I don't really like the eq, and I don't really want to have one on the bass (like I said, I like my preamp on the floor) so I think about simplifying the settings, to just cut the mids and trebles, the lows always staying all the way up. Making it some sort of active varitone...

Hey, anyone come across or have for sale one of the following:
1. Array obsession
2. Array attack
3. Array limited spalt maple

I am in Canada, so that'd be ideal for shipping, US at least. 4 stringer's, excellent condition and MIK preferred.

I will be reverb'n an excellent condition MIK Black Phoenix 4 this week (make room for incoming Array NT). Still has the "bigger bridge" tag. Was going to BEAD the phoenix back in 2016 but its sat on the wall from day 1, played it twice. From guitar store to wall art.... haha. It's a beauty but I'm going for a stable of specific purpose arrays....

Can someone describe a Traben Chaos Obsession neck profile ?

I have a guy wanting to trade one toward an amp I have and can't find specs online.

Just need an idea of the shape really. Round C, D, etc.

I'll skim through the thread and look for comments on the pickups and such.

Thanks

Does anyone have wiring diagrams for Traben Phoenix? Theres a white and black wire which comes from the front and are soldered together but im wondering if they should be soldered to something? If anyone can confirm the wiring is right might be good too. The nck pickup seens to have been replaced with a Dimarzio.

Any help appreciated...

Hi !

These wires come from the DiMarzio J pickup. It has two coils and 4 wires. The coils are currently wired in series, you can either leave everything as it is, or try wiring them in parallel, to see if that can bring you an interesting different sound, in which case you could add a series/parallel switch. In any case, you shouldn't leave the soldering unprotected like that, it might cause some issues...

I found this :

Just use a multimeter to make sure the wire colors fit (couldn't find anything specific about this pickup, it would be logical for all DiMarzio pickups to have the same wire colors, but you never know). And you'll need a DPDT On/On (a push/pull pot might be nice). But you should make a temporary wiring (with crocodile clips, for example) to make sure it's worth making a permanent mod.

I am posting my NBD here because after searching I found this club. I traded for a Traben AR4 (Array?) and I am in love with it. Could someone please provide some further specs on this. And debate with me on what type of wood this is? Thanks! These sound killer and are clearly underrated for the price range. About to load up the big iron Ampeg and test my neighbors.
