Traben Club, Level 2.

Haven't been happy with my Chaos Obsession 5 since I bought it new. Really quiet bass so I finally decided I'm going to put an Aguilar 18V preamp in it. Getting it prewired with Volume, Blend, Push-Pull Mid, Treble, Bass, and an Active/Passive switch. Just need to save up $213 for it.

I'll give the pickups one more chance after that, then I might change them too.

?? Really ? You wanna try and get hold of a John Moyer - the output is huge, even from the active input on my Trace Elliot amp.

My Chaos Core and fretless Sun are great for output. Nice and loud in the active outputs on my amps. Growl when I want them, but the Chaos Obsession is stunningly quiet compared to them and that's in the passive input.

I have a spare preamp out of that Sun (just thought of that, the Sun now has an Aguilar in it). Wonder if I swapped it into the Obsession if that would help. A lot of soldering for that experiment though. :hmm:

BTW, that's the Obsession in my avatar.

My chaos obsession 5 is very quiet too. So quiet that I've wanted to get rid of it. The tone is great just no volume put to it. I have thought about going for a new pre-amp but I don't have the cash. I raised the pickups a bit which helped a bit but it just isn't enough.

Yeah, I raised my pickups too. Just never satisfied with it. If it just didn't look so darn sweet (striped ebony top), I wouldn't have it any longe. Has some neck dive too. When I get the extra cash, I'll make the mods. Then it will get some playing time again, hopefully.

Won this in an online contest from Musician's Friend several years ago, but it remains unplayed as I'm pretty exclusively an acoustic guitarist...I don't even own an amp. Apparently only 100 were built in this configuration (light maple flame-out fingerboard, etc.).

Over the next few days I'll be trying to figure out how to post it in the classifieds forum, but for the time being anyone who wants to view my album of about 18 detailed photos can go here.

Damn!, that's a beauty. If I'd lived in the same country you do I'd be on my way to visit and try this bass. Or even buy it :D

Exciting news on my end. I found a guy who is selling an 03' Chaos Fretless 4. The old style with the flame bridge of craigslist near me. Its been played about 5 times and he is selling it for about 600 dollars what it sold for new. Excited! Going to pick it up tomorrow.

Will be my first fretless but it came with lines on the fret board but not defretted which is cool. So its like fretless for dummies! Will post pics of this bad boy when I get her home and defile her.

The Greg Weeks Sig is BC Rich now as well from what I have seen. Traben is still making new basses. Just not getting a "push" from Hanser. BC Rich is a much more well known name and must be an easier way to promote for them.

Either way they are still making Traben's just seem to have given up on artist endorsement and new models which we haven't seen in 2 years now or 3.

Yeah, the Moyer is THE EXACT SAME bass but with the BC Rich name, and the Greg Weeks model is just the same imprint, bridge and all, but on a BC Rich Eagle. Even the electronic layout is in the same spots. Oddly enough, both Traben and BC Rich show Weeks sigs on their sites.

I have the same problem on my array obsession too. When I compare it to other basses like fender and music man, the traben just seems to have a hollow and weak sound compared to the other basses. The only way I can get it to sound somewhat decent is to use the bridge pickup with the bass bosted. Should I change the pre amp and pickups to seymore duncain blackouts?

after more experience with other basses, I've come to the same conclusion. I feel like my Phoenix and array premium just sound "hollow" or thin. not sure how to describe it. they don't sound bad, I just want more.

should I start with the preamp or pickups?

I have an array limited that sounds better than any of my other basses. With the pre-amp controls and pick combo it's more versatile than any other bass I've played. I was looking at other Basses because I thought the bridge was a little over done. I kept comming back to the Traben because it sounded better.
