I've been cleaning up around the house and putting a bunch of stuff up on eBay to finance the recent (and future) bass purchases and even though I research others' auctions to find out what's worth selling, I always take my own photos. I don't trust buying from people that I've seen the photos up there before.

Hopefully the guy actually had the bass and wasn't ripping anyone off. Just thought it was kinda slimy thing to do.

Enjoying the Sun BTW!

OOZMAN,

The quote you posted above is an opinion of coarse. It is based on the fact that a number of coated strings are nickel, which have a more subdued sound than stainless to begin with. By coating a SS string it actually tames them a bit and they are less bright than uncoated SS, this is why I think they sound OK. This is not to say that they sound like Nickel in the coated version though.

My preference is still an uncoated nickel round-wound.

Really the whole thing comes down to taste, type of music, cabinet quality and personal opinion.

i was actually referring to the contradiction in your post, but forget i ever mentioned it. :)

OOZ,

"The black beauties... ...sound decent since they are coated stainless. Coated strings always have diminished highs and upper mids. To me that is devastating to your sound."

I guess I should have said. The black beauties are SS so they don't appear as muffled as coated nickel but they aren't nearly as musical as uncoated strings.

Well I appreciate the scrutiny, I'm just an opinionated Norwegian.

Question for the Traben experts here... is the Tribal Sun the only fretless Traben ever offered? How long was the run for them in the 5 string variety?

As far as I know it is the only fretless they offered. It was being built when Ben and Tracy still had the company and then Hanser carried it over when they took over, but I don't know for how long. The sale happened in 2002 or 2003, from what I heard. Mine was built in 01 or 02 (I forgot) and is a 5. The first 2 numbers of the ser # is the build year, this started in '00 or so. Before that there was no rhyme or reason to the numbering system.

Just received this new red Traben Neo Limited 5 string from Dean Johnson's Music Ebay site for $499. An early anniversary gift from my wife. :smug: But the deal is I have to wait until August to really get to play it :hmm:. From the little time I did play it, it sounded and felt pretty good. Dean set it up with low action. Only had to tune it up once I got it out of the box.

Plan to use it in our family gospel group. We play all original music.

Anyone else use Traben's to play gospel music?

#59 dude, that's the prettiest Neo I've ever seen.... congrats! :hyper:

I've never played gospel, but, I have used my Traben for just about everything else, rock, metal, jazz, blues, pop, punk, folk, ballads, solo bass, funk, and it supplied the goods every time.

Actually, I espcially liked bringing mine to blues jams, getting all the dirty looks and such, and then fitting in like a glove, tonally. :D

So my Traben gig bag is practically in pieces right now... thinking about an upgrade to the hardshell case. Before I shell out the $100+, I want to know one thing: does the hardshell case have dedicated closeable gear storing compartments? I couldn't tell from the online pics. It doesn't seem worth it to me unless I can securely store my cables, strap, etc.
