So my Traben gig bag is practically in pieces right now... thinking about an upgrade to the hardshell case. Before I shell out the $100+, I want to know one thing: does the hardshell case have dedicated closeable gear storing compartments? I couldn't tell from the online pics. It doesn't seem worth it to me unless I can securely store my cables, strap, etc.

They still haven't shipped the cases yet, so I haven't received mine and can't tell you. They were due to be shipped in June but haven't arrived as yet.

Do what I do for the gear, get a medium size tool bag from Sears and use that for you gear. I throw power cords, cables, strings, wire clippers, winder, screw drivers, tuner, all things I don't want to be caught without in there. Has a strap that lets it go over my shoulder easy and the bass case is lighter for it.

So you would order them direct from Traben? I was just going to snag one off of Amazon, myself.

I'm not really needing the full utility belt; I'm headed up to college and probably not doing too much moving around of gear. If I can't put stuff in the case anyway, I'll just replace the gig bag I already have and throw that stuff in there. It's kind of a tricky decision because my car has a small trunk and an equally small backseat; it would be a challenge fitting a hardshell case in there. I won't be using my car much on campus, so I could swing a hardshell case, and I'd like to have all of my eggs in one basket, so to speak.

I ordered mine through the shop I picked up by Obsession about 6 weeks ago was it? The guy said when they would be shipped from overseas to the distributors and through the channels he thought he'd have mine in hand by late June.

If you're not going to be moving around too much or doing much jamming or gigging, then that's cool. Probably a gig bag is better for you. FWIW, I can fit my doublebass in my son's Neon when I need to! :D

Update on the Traben hardshell cases...

Got a call from my local shop yesterday. Mine arrived at the store Monday a week ago. Due to the store owner being away for vacation, he wasn't there to sign for the shipment, so it went back to the distributor. When he got back and knew I was looking for it, he discovered it had gone back. When he contacted the sales rep, he then found out they shipped a lefty case instead. He said it should be there today or tomorrow.

Still don't know if there's storage inside.

Picked up the case on the way home tonight. Not a bad case. Big compartment in the midsection with plenty of storage room for cables, tuners, strap, etc... Latches grab nice and have a patina look finish to them. Feel of the leather is soft, binding seems OK, interior is nice and plush. Graphics on exterior are nice and crisp. The case is much larger than my P's case is. Thicker by maybe a half inch and longer by at least 4 inches. Good case for the $120.

Put my Chaos Obsession 5 in it and she fits in it snugly and doesn't slop around at all. She is held firmly in place. Mind you I don't throw my basses around or into my vehicles.

Opened the back of the Tribal Sun last night to look at the electronics per discussion earlier in this thread. 2 wires from each PU and the serial number starts with 01. Just FYI for those keeping track.

Not a rats nest either, nicely bundled.

Where do the wires from the MM go? There are 4. A pic of your volme and blend would be great.

Congrats you have an 01, Pre-hanser, you'll love it!

I've never showed off my Sun, it's an early 02 model. I've modified it a bit. It has an Aguilar OBP-3 with a frequency select switch, coil tapping switch for the MM and a series parallel for the MM.

The coolest sound is with the MM in series run parallel with the J pup, it growels and mah-wahs at the same time.

Here is the whole stable, down to 1 Traben:bawl: MK will soon be the new owner of my core 5 if UPS ever decides to deliver it.

OK, there's a white and green wire that go no where. They are just taped off together. Other two wires are hooked in. Here's a pic of the compartment and a close up of the volume and blend.
