So my Traben gig bag is practically in pieces right now... thinking about an upgrade to the hardshell case. Before I shell out the $100+, I want to know one thing: does the hardshell case have dedicated closeable gear storing compartments? I couldn't tell from the online pics. It doesn't seem worth it to me unless I can securely store my cables, strap, etc.

Seriously mate, I wouldn't bother with a Traben case. Any case like that will offer some protection but they aren't great at all. At the end of the day, all the Traben bass is is a 35" scale bass. Most bass cases will fit the Traben. If you really want a case that will do the job properly, you should buy a Hiscox case. Unsurpassed quality for the price - check out the video of them too, pure British quality:

Compare that to what Traben are offering for the money and the Hiscox leaves it standing. I've used mine to do gigs in Europe and my Traben was fine, no complaints at all.

It's official: I'm now the proud owner of 3 Traben basses. #3 just arrived yesterday from our own MontanaMike.

Cast in order of appearance:

Chaos Obsession 5 - stripped ebony - 7 piece walnut/maple neck thru
Tribal Sun - red flame maple - wenge fingerboard
Chaos Core 5 - black vapor burled maple - maple neck

Family photos due this weekend if the weather is good.

That makes the stable at 5 total including the '78 P and the double. It will stay that way for a while since I promised the wife no more basses for a year or two unless I sell one of them.

I need other gear in the mean time like a new practice amp, a pedalboard, cables, straps, pedals, etc... I didn't promise her no more of that stuff. :D

After talking to Tim at Traben, I know there is no way ever to get a replacement bridge in black... so, anyone have any ideas about how and with what to paint this sucker? The stock hardware looks like butt on the new shiny green paint job!:p

OK, now that I have the Core, I finally get to see the Traben straplocks. Have to say they are nice, if a bit on the large size. Problem is, the other two Trabens do not have them, the Sun and the Obsession. Let me guess, since I've already looked online... Traben doesn't sell them without a bass attached?

I need two more sets. Does anyone have any they replaced on their bass(es) I could take off thier hands? I'd be willing to pay of course.

I've been seriously GASing over the Obsession runs of both the Array and Chaos series, and I have some EMG-Hz pickups in my current Traben that I want to put them in a lighter Traben body. Do the Array Obsession or Chaos Obsession have the same preamp as the Kore? I bought the Kore from someone who had done some modifying, and it has an 18V preamp while I noticed that the Obsessions both have 9V. Is it possible that the guy I bought it from swapped out the preamp? Would I need to do some routing to fit in my EMGs? How does the Array sound versus the Chaos? I can't find any Trabens that I can get my hands on, otherwise I wouldn't have to ask these questions.

Party, I've got both the Chaos Obsession and the Chaos Core (C version, not K). The Chaos Obsession has 9V preamp, the Core has the 18V Aguilar preamp. That's how they come from Traben.

As for the sound, I can't tell yet with my Obsession, I just got her and two other basses and haven't set the Obsession up yet. Right now she's a lot brighter sounding than the others (Traben Sun and Chaos Core).

As for weight, the Obsession is heavy, weighing in at 10.6 pounds and has a bit of neck dive to her. Not a lot, but she is neck heavy to me. She's 2 pounds heavier than her sister Core. (both are 5 strings)

Also want to add that the pickup placement is a bit different between the Obsession and the Array. Even with the same electronics, that's got to affect the tone somewhat. The Array's PU's are further apart with the rear being a lot closer to the bridge than the Obsession's, probably a bit darker then?

GASed over the array attack in the shop yesterday, but it had been raining so i was soaked through and didnt want to disrespect it by trying it in said state ^ ^ next time. the matt finish looks pretty badass. i had been thinking about the array obsession, but i can only find it online and id feel safer trying it out before buying it :/ the active/passive switch and neck through on the obsession would be nice to have though :s

Went to finally set up my Chaos Obsession last night and got a couple surprises.

First: The screw holding down the cover was softer than plastic! I stripped the head easily and barely got it out enough to grip it with pliers and remove it the rest of the way. I was really surprised at how soft it was.

Surprise number two: After hearing about 2 truss rods on all Traben 5 strings, the Obsession only has one. Question here: Do the neck throughs then only have one and bolt ons have two?

Now another question: the action on the Obsession is ridiculously low, somewhere in the .003 range and my other basses are all in the .008 range. I buzz like crazy on this bass obviously and need to set action higher, but the truss rod doesn't want to budge. How hard are these things to move? I'm a bit leary of putting to much on the allen wrench for fear of damaging something. Never did my own setups before.
