I've been playing bass for 3 years (this summer). I'm a long time reader, first time posting.
I bought my CV last december, and as good as it was, it wasn't really it .. well, atleast not visually. Had problems with the neck so I bought a Mighty Mite neck from e-bay and it just went on:

Mighty Mite Jazz Bass neck, no finish! just the way I like it!
Fender vintage reissue reverse-wound tuners. Love the way they stick out a little.
A black 3-ply pickguard. I love me some black and white. When the white finish fades a little I might put back the tort on.
Some random chrome knobs. Never liked the plastic ones.
Aaaaand an oldschool Mighty Ducks of Anaheim sticker

It's a jazz bass cover because it's a PJ bass. A precision one wouldn't fit with the jazz bass pickup.
Here's my P bass.
It was a basic Affinity, somebody put in a replacement pickup before my dad acquired it, he put on the chrome trays and eventually gave it to me. I put a Dr Parts maple neck on there with VM tuners and a bar retainer and my own hand made decals. Finally put on a tort guard.
It looks great and plays so beautifully.

My VM 70s Jazz looks almost identical to this, except with a BAII bridge and no drop-tuner. DP123s and Black Beauties. I bought it with all these mods for about $200, actually, and intend it to get a paint job with matching headstock.
I have a black BAII on a different bass that I would trade for your chrome one, if that might help the process along.
So I finally got this Bullet Bass dialed-in. I received it a number of years ago in horrible shape and it's been on the back-burner since then. The original plan was to load it with a P-bass pickup, but I've got two keeper Precisions.
I've always loved Telecaster basses(never owned one) and I've been wanting to experiment with the single coil P-bass sound. At any rate, this bass is light, has a great neck and seemed like it had the right curves to make a good SCPB platform.
It's ugly, aggressive and probably looks worse now than when I got it.....but I really like it.

I like it too. Better still it's an aggressive bass, it looks like it should be. I really dig the way it looks now. Bet it sounds cherry with that maple board.

[FTR - it's a Squier (loaded) body modded with a Fender authorized Mighty-Mite P neck]
The more I look at this bass the more I like it, the P neck must feel great on it. But.. I would definitely put a jazz bass 'F' ashtray on it. Then it just might be perfect!

I'm curious, what does the switch do (coils series/parallel, tone control out-of-circuit, or...?). And did you need to route out more wood to get the controls to line up?
Originally I was going to be a pickup select switch but at this point I really like the sound of both pickups working together much more than either pickup on it's own. There's a specific sound I'm going for with this bass. I may end-up using the switch for series/parallel duties, I may also add a phase switch and/or "straight to jack" option....there's lot's of room to add more switches if needed but ultimately I want things to be as simple as possible. Experimenting at home is helpful but ultimately I have to gig a bass to find-out what works and really get a bass into "gigging shape". Again, I have limited experience with SCPB pickups so....
Yes, I did have to route the cavity in order to place the controls where they are.
I just purchased a Squier P-Bass (Yes I'm a virgin) two days ago, let the modding begin right?!?!? My first bass, sad right.
