I've been dying to do this with a P. I love P shape and feel so much but want a different sound.

Many, many people will argue the opposite. No-one can stop you, but why not wear the Squier name with pride, or if you're embarassed, shave the name altogether and let people think it's a custom job?

The problem is that it's not just about your intentions, but what happens when you sell or trade it further down the road. The label the original owner put on just for fun, can quickly cause yet another fake Fender to enter the used market.

To my way of thinking, the only legit reason for using a waterslide is if you're doing studio work, and you need to get around label snobs.

Yeah I hear ya. I'll never sell either one of my Squier's, they're worth far more to me than what I could get out of them. Great basses. Maybe I won't replace the decal. I guess I just like the fender looks more that the Squier. It's an ascetic think for me, nothing more.

I made my own 62 style Squier logo decal for my VM Jazz. I agree it's all about aesthetics but couldn't stand the fake Fender thing (It did have one).
Now, I also have a P bass which is mostly aftermarket parts, a Fender pup and a Squier body and I made a fake '71 Fender decal for it. It's not a Squier, or anything else for that matter and there's no way it would pass for a real one. But the decal just felt right.
So it's a complex issue.

Definitely complex ... My P is all Squier wood, mostly Fender hardware (bridge, neckplate), and a pickup that's standard equipment in lots of Fender basses (quarter-pounder), but not Squier ... I don't think I would have put a Fender logo on it, but the neck came with it. So there it is.

Not a fan of putting Fender on a Squier and were I to buy one like that the first thing I'd likely do is sand it off and put something silly on there or leave it blank. That said I wouldn't slam someone for doing it as long as it still said Squier somewhere else like on the back of the headstock or the neckplate, otherwise it would seem too much like trying to pass it off as something it's not. By having Fender on the headstock you don't have to deal with as many cork sniffers when playing out (I'd imagine); avoiding people who want to tell you that you need better gear or prefer to listen with your ears would make it totally worthwhile.

I love them on my P--tone kills, and the Affinity bodies are super light. And I've read here that some (some) think that a P w/ QPs can do a pretty good Ric impersonation--though maybe they meant QPs in a J. I can't confirm that, though, since I haven't played a Ric in about 15 years.

I'll bet a set in the Affninity PJ would be ahhhhhh-mazing.
