Tricked Out Squier Club Part 3

I used Halford's clear car lacquer, dusted on in light coats. Just enough to seal the wood. It feels great if you like a satin finish. I believe building up more layers for a gloss finish involves polishing with an abrasive of some sort in between layers. Hardly experts corner, but y'know.. :-)

Btw, post some pics and tell us how you get on. I fancy putting a MM neck on my Jazz and I'd like to get your opinion.

This is actually my P that I stripped and refinished myself with tung and rub on poly. I was thinking of rubbing on a couple of really thin coats of tung on the entire neck, then probably do one coat of poly to the back of the neck and the headstock. Sound like a good plan y'all??

Or could I just throw the neck on the way it is and rock it? If I do need to finish it, can I wipe some tung oil over the entire neck, even the frets? Or should I tape the frets off?? That's really one of my only concerns....

My five string mighty mite neck was finished and ready to go. Its a satin finish.

Working on my first Squier mod now, a Chris Aiken that is getting a beauty treatment along with some electronics mods. Its nice being able to get fairly high-quality basses for around $300 to improve upon. I'm sure this one won't be my last.

Add me to the club. Just finished modding my Active Jazz V with Sadowsky Noiseless Pickups and installed the BassMods Preamp. I'll post pictures shortly. The BassMods Preamp is an absolute killer:

Master Volume
Blend
Bass/Treble Stacked
Mid/Tone Stacked (Tone control works both active and passive)
Activce Passive switch

Hey Squier modders, I was wondering, any of you have any exp with converting a P/J to a J?? I have a newer affinity P/J and I'm thinking of converting it to a straight J bass. I just installed the new EMG geezer sig set in it and they actually sound really good. But I'm wondering, can I convert what I have now to a straight jazz? I would think that it would entail more than simply getting a J pup set and throwing it in there. Any suggestions, thoughts, wisdom to share?

Does this qualify as a tricked out Squier? I had my CV Precision painted Fiesta Red by the Guitar Paint Guys, and got a parchment pickguard from Pickguardian. Turned out great, I think.

Nice! - it looks like the late 70's international orange P-bass that Aimee Mann used back in the early 90's

Howdy tricked out Squier club,
I just picked up what I believe to be a 07 MiC Affinity J5 (SN CY0708XXXX) and am looking to get some new p'ups. Here's my problem, I know diddly about Fender or Squier sizing... especially on a 5'er. I took a measurement of the neck and bridge and came out to about 4 inches on the bridge and about 3 3/4 - 15/16 on the neck, sound about right?
Have any of you fine folks done any pick up swapping on a similar model? What did you end up with? I'm most concerned with getting the right size, ya know? Is it the same size as a Fender J 5? Deluxe? Before you ask, you betcha, I used the search before posting. I've kinda been beating my head against this for a day or 2.

Here's my VM Jazz fretless, finally got it done.

Warmoth goncalo alves/bocote neck, Stew-Mac wiring harness, Seymour Duncan Antiquity II pick ups, Gotoh bridge, Stew-Mac abalone-top knobs to extend the black from the tuning pegs and bridge and the abalone from the neck.

I have to say, that is hands-down the nicest feeling neck I've ever played. That unfinished goncalo alves feels stupendously good. Whenever I get around to a full Warmoth build I'll go with it again.

Have the same bass, and really the only thing I changed was the pup for a Curtis Novak vintage wound one, CTS pots, orange drop and switchcraft, and threw some Chromes on her! Have to say it's the best bass I've had!
