Thank you my good man. I'm very pleased with the final result as well. I was very happy when I refinished the body. But now that the maple board is on there, I'm pretty over the moon about it. Plays like a dream. These mighty mite necks are the tops. All I had to do was file the bottom end fret ends down a little. Couldn't be happier.

Anyone with experience of swapping out necks;

I have a VM PJ, and like the neck a lot, but I'd rather have a maple board. I also like the idea of the Tele head stock shape. The neck on there is like this -

I was considering swapping it out for something like -

There's an obvious difference in size & shape of the neck heel. Would that make a big difference? Has anyone encountered any success/problems with a neck swap like this? I don't want to waste time tracking down a neck here, only to find it won't be compatible.

I agree here. You'll provable be able to fit that first neck into your bass without any issue. But that tele neck would require a lot of modification. Have you looked into mighty mite necks??

Never had a Tele bass to check out, but that's the way it is with guitars.

Of course, if you're up for that sort of thing, you can always measure from the last fret, and round off an un-drilled square end to fit your P-bass...

The first is the stock neck, for comparison purposes. Haven't looked into the MMs much, I'll check them out.

Thanks for the answers, if it's going to require a lot of modification to make fit then it doesn't seem worth the effort, unfortunately.

I personally wouldn't have an issue with the truss rod adjustment being at the heel. My old P bass has it, there's no notching in either the body or the PG. Some may consider it inconvenient but Fender made 'em like that for years.

I've had basses with the heel adjustment, but they've all had a notch etc, which I'd have to do if I was to get the neck (I wouldn't want to remove the neck for any minor adjustment necessary). It's not a big deal, just something for me to take into account

Decided on swapping out a neck on a Jazz I don't play much, and wow! I don't particularly like blocks on a P, and I prefer the 1.625 nut width, but as a temporary measure this is great.

The neck fit like a glove, didn't so much have to adjust the truss rod once it was strung up, and the satin finish has made the bass so much quicker to play. I love the CAR/black/maple colour scheme anyway, and I think it looks great here.

It's a VM Jazz neck (previous owner replaced the decal with the Fender logo), on the VM CAR PJ body. The only other mods I've made to it so far are putting in a 3 way pickup selector, with one vol & one tone control, a switchcraft jack, and I believe my tech swapped out the mini pots to full size ones, and routed out a little more space for them.

Considering swapping in some SD SJB-2s, as I've never tried them and would like to give them a blast. Otherwise, I'm still very happy with this bass - it plays better than some Fenders I've paid over twice the price for.

If they made these with maple boards as standard, I'd buy a LPB tomorrow. Tempted to get a 3TSB and keep it stock, too. I don't think this'll be my main player, but I'm tempted to use it as my sole instrument for one band, because it's the one I keep picking up first right now.

I did try this. The P and the J in series sounded close to P soloed.

Generally speaking, I find that series wiring is the most effective when both pickups are of the same type (two Js, or two coils of a humbucker). More the pickups differ, more one of the two tends to dominate the overall sound...

OK... I want to join this club with my (originally a squire affinity p bass) there is more upgrades on the way including a delano pup, and gold hardware, but so far it is kickin ass, here are some mobile phone pics to get started!
