Mine arrived today.the e string tuner broken but I had planned to change them to Hipshot HB7 and a black Babicz bridge. So I'm not going to trip on that.bought the bass from GC.I put some Black Beauties on it today and they are nice strings feel sound I was skeptical about colored strings but they are great.well when the bass is done pictures will be coming . The natural finish is nice. I like the neck my first maple neck.

I will be posting a pick of my completely blacked out VM 77 Jazz when the control plate comes in next week.

Black Wilkinson Tuning Keys
Black Fender Pearloid Pickguard
Black Economy heavy duty bridge
Albalone knobs
DR Black Beauties-Looks awesome against the maple neck.
Custom neck plate

If the MII original strings have no real playing time on them and they have the red silks - you wanna sell them?

uh sure. the guy at GC said the bass was there for a week before i had them put it on layaway for me. ive played maybe 30 minutes on them if that. stringing up the rotosounds today.

any particular reason you ask?

GC had a 3 ply white jbass pickguard clearenced out for $9. i bought the two they had left and i plan on putting one on my '77 jazz.

upgrade plans:
fender white 3 ply pg
gotoh 201
hipshot bt7 xtender
dimarzio ultra jazz in cream
cts pots, switchcraft jack, orange cap (the usual)

debating on painting it CAR. i dont know if that will happen or not. i actually like the sound of the stock pups, just want a little more output.

My other VM JAZZ. Do I get a number?

if you spill the details, ill issue a number.
havent been able to sit in front of a computer more than a few minutes.
working 12 hour days can do that.

09 VM jazz. Hipshot HB7 tuners. Reranch Fiesta RED refinish and the fender strings off my new to me CV 50's P bass. Cream covers on the Duncan Design Pickups are painted. The pole spacing was different on the covers I bought so they will go on if I decide to change the pickups later.

What colour/brand did you use to paint the pickup covers? Looks great BTW! :bassist:

To those of you that have VMJs and changed their pickguards: where did you source your pickguards from? I want a tort guard, but I don't know how far the Squier differs from the norm. Discuss!

For my p-bass Warmoth did one and all screws were within. 031 in spacing. That was only 1 or 2 screws, the rest were right on. However I had to file the pup cutout quite a bit to get the nice loose fit I was looking for.

I used a vintage PG direct from Fender. It only had one screw that actually was where a previous hole was - but who cares? You're improving the looks and who looks under the PG anyway?

The only actual cutting was on the VEE where the control panel meets the PG and that was super easy.

I posted a complete installation that somehow never got sticky-d (and I wonder why!?! I thought it was a great article!)

But if you want to see the way I did it - I'll be here in person later on after I get outta the Tux Bass Guitar Shoppe.

IF you want to install the guards, you'll also need to install a support for the lower screw on the p'ups guard. This is the way I did it:::
