Agreed. Been awhile since I've used Sansamp. Last time was the VT Deluxe a few months ago. The RB is definitely different and replaced my desire to use Sansamp exclusively. I'll A/B the RB with the Sansamp Deluxe PBDI if I don't pass out after work and give some thoughts.

My thoughts in general are that the Sansamp stuff has less going on in the low mids, and more going on in the upper mids, whereas the Rusty Box is the opposite. Bottom end and top end on both are comparable. Ultimately the Rusty Box sounds less nasal/ganky in the upper mids, as well as being less scooped when compared to a Sansamp product with the blend knob set to full. If I was playing metal, I'd probably take a Sansamp over the Rusty Box. Since I don't really play much heavy stuff any more, the Rusty Box is my go-to for adding a bit of drive to my tone, while still keeping it "reasonable."

I really do like Sansamp stuff, I just like the Rusty Box more.

Does anyone know if the upcoming run will have any changes or tweaks?
Probably not, but I'm curious.
I'm still on the waiting list, I'm contemplating picking up a new one for the heck of it.

On a side note, according to Tronographic, having a scratchy Gain control is normal.
They told me that they have not figured out a way to remove the scratchy noise.

If they added an independent level control for the boost channel, I'd buy another one tomorrow for live use, and keep my current one in my studio. Heck, I'd pre-order it tomorrow if they did that :p

Weird stuff. They got it right on mine. All of the pots are completely scratch free.

"The boost function on the Rusty Box wasn't really designed to be varied but you can try this:

Remove the bottom cover. Oriente the Rusty so that the knobs are down on the table and the footswitches are closest to your body.

In the upper left corner should be a big capacitor labeled C5. Below C5 you should see R5 and below that is R6.

You can try varying R6. Lowering R6 should give you more gain but raising it may not reduce the gain too much. If this doesn't work as well as you would like try removing C5 and vary R6 again."
