Tronographic Rusty Box Soundclips

Thanks for the advice guys. :)

My Talkbass adventures have been a little light lately because of a complicated move, but I'm back on the boards now that I'm settled. And of course, my G.A.S. has kicked in again. *sigh lol

I guess the search for "The Perfect Overdrive" continues. I'm pretty sure I'll dig the Rusty Box given what I've read/heard about it. Now the waiting begins. :)

i'm in a different spot where the Rusty is mostly just my tone shaping. i have it set where it's a bit grindy/dirty when i dig in, but i just LOVE the clean tone it gives. cuts through with a LOT of presence.

for straight dirt i'm sooooo looking forward to my Darkglass B3k. but at like $320, if i was going for just one? Rusty Boxxerz alllll the way.

Thanks for the info, that's how I like to run my overdrives too.

Pssst... I have a B3k and it's pretty freakin' sweet too. I've tried quite a few overdrives so far, and that one sounds startlingly similar to the overdrive sound on my 1974 Ampeg V4b. Just sayin'...

..... i've used that with ny Rusty on both the Voodoo PP2 and the BBE Supah Charger, works a charm.

Got my Correct size Y-cable and was just curious which two you are doubling? I figured spots 1 and 2 (on PP2), but I see that they are only max current 60mA when Doubled. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Also, on a side note, I will be posting a review of my newly acquired Daring Audio Phat Beam. Short version is it Kills!

are you using it with the PP2 or the Supah Charger? i like the Supah Charger a little better, might change whenever i get around to putting an M9 back on my board, but i think 4 and 5 are the 9/16? i was trying those, and couldn't hear any difference between using 1 and 2, which are 9/12, so i use those flicked over to 12 for 24 volts.

i think the PP2 only goes up to 12 volts on it's highest volt output ports? but i've not had a problem running it like that.

i actually try to save the higher ma ports for One spot daisy chain cables. usually there's 4 or 5 pedz on that cable, so i try to put that where there's the most ma available.

Sorry to be a Pain in the a#@, but here is my concern, The RB says to run at least 24V and 100mA. The Specs I have on PP2 is:

DIP Switch: ON

1-4 (ACA) 12.3V 60mA

5-6 (L6) 14.5V / 12V (unregulated) 50mA / 200mA+

7-8 (SAG) Adjustable 4V - 9V 100mA

I just don't want to fry this beautiful Box!

The Supa-Charger puts out 100mA on the 1st and 2nd outputs, so it should work fine with the Rusty Box. As far as the PP2+, You might want to email Tronographic about the actual power requirement of the pedal- I highly doubt it actually draws anywhere near 100mA, companies always just give very conservative power requirements to save themselves from warranty/fluke accidents. I've never heard of an analog drive pedal requiring anywhere close to that much juice though (usually less than 20mA I think)...

also, looking at the PP2's manual...........

" 9/12V (x4) – Standard 9V and 12V Boss ACA
With each one of these four outputs delivering 100mA, you can easily power any 9V battery-operated pedals. Boss pedals that specify the PSA adapter operate at 9V like most other pedals. Boss pedals that require the ACA adapter operate at 12V which can be selected via switches underneath the Pedal Power 2 Plus. Any one of these outputs can be individually selected to run at 9V or 12V.

9V (x2) – High Current 9V and Line 6 Modelers
These two outputs each deliver 250mA allowing you run high current draw effects like the Boss DD-20 Giga Delay or Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler. Via switches underneath the Pedal Power 2 Plus, these two outputs can be separately configured for regulated (Boss Twin Pedals) or unregulated (Line 6 Modelers) power allowing you to run both units if so desired. These outputs can also power any standard 9V effects as well.

9V (x2) – Standard 9V With Battery Sag Control
These outputs each have an available 100mA of power, but also allow you to SAG the voltage from roughly 4V to 9V. This feature can be enabled via the bottom panel switches. The SAG control is mostly useful for transistor-based fuzz, octavia, and distortion circuits, as most modern opamp designs are minimally affected by variations in supply voltage. We recommend turning SAG off if you’re going to run digital pedals like delay, chorus, and reverb.

18V/24V – Using Custom Cables
All of the outputs on the Pedal Power 2 Plus (and the original Pedal Power) are completely isolated allowing you to create different voltages. You can run effects like the current MXR Flanger by combining two 9V outputs to create a single 18V supply. By switching two outputs into 12V ACA mode, you can join them together to create a 24V output for powering numerous Electro-Harmonix stompboxes including the Deluxe Memory Man. "

it looks like you'd be using 100ma anyways on the lowest of the outputs. same as i am. and i've never had a problem.

Re the manual, it seems like the Max Current drops down to 60mA with the DIP switch ON (spots 1-4) and where my concern comes in. It states that spots 5-6 are 14.5V/12V (Unregulated) with 50mA / 200Ma+

That last sentence might as well be hieroglyphs

i asked for a graffiti-ish/Brian Wood/Channel Zero thing with the 0<>0 (it's in my one pretentious tat) and he just blew me away. no homo bro gay love for that man.

BUT running it into the Rusty? RECOMMENDED. my goodness the gritty anger that is coming out of my amp. it's like i just had sex with it's sister. on TOP of it.

PS I think I may run two Rusty Boxes into an A/B box..
one set for low key SVT-like butteriness
and one set for balls-out Shellacness..
thoughts on this? Am I just too lazy to switch the knobs on one?

it IS the shizz for distortion. i like it's tone a lot. i went with the separate OD pedal to kinda do what you're talking about. as soon as my 2nd one comes in i'm gonna try the Erukukukahsu internal tweakings.... i'd LOVE to have it just boost the gain structure to go from clean with a touch of dirt to gritty filth with a touch of clean, but NOT have that noticeable volume jump.
