Yellow would be sweet , personally I am fond of orange on a bass.

Wait till you see what I have planned for the headstock too. This is a real minimalist bass for me - no pickup or bridge covers, and I think the yellow and black theme is gonna kill.

The knobs are going to just be peeking out from that echelon I cut into the body. Working on that part now and I am at minimum thickness for the body to get the pots and knobs to work as I want them too.

I'll have to custom machine the knobs (ordered from another TB-er) to get them to fit I think. Gonna get the small machine lathe outta storage and fire it up to see what I can make out of them.

Saturday, July 16th Update

I did most of the routing today and put on the first primer coat so I can see where I am for shape and flaws to the surface.

I'm experimenting with colors and clear coats and I think I'm homing in on the color now - only three more to test. When I put the clear coat on the colors, they change - so that's not what I wanted - but I've hit some really [DEL]cool, odd, weird, [/DEL] wild colors this way.

What I want is a bright lemon yellow, but that may change moment to moment. I'm on a mission ----- unless something sparkly catches my eye.

Unless something else comes along, I'll consider a pair of the GFS P p'ups on this bass as I really like the sound of them on the Tux Bass #1 in the normal P-position.

Those were the GFS Antiquities standard wound, which I found to be seriously thumpy and full of great tones with a powerful fundamental and rich harmonics. Maybe I might want to consider a set of the over-wounds for the bridge position for a lot of sharper bite and then when blended together --- hmmm?

This whole next week is very busy for me and the only day I'll have any time to myself is Thursday morning, so a lot may not be accomplished for the next six days. We'll see.

I've still got to fly-cut the pot locations and the eyebrow cutouts for the control knobs and the S-P switch.

There's just a few pieces to get yet: the bridge, the knobs, the mini-pots, some control panel cover material and the output jack.

Either gravity has gotten stronger, or taking wood out of the body made it heavier. The weight at the moment is 4lbs / 4 oz - which is up a couple of ounces now. Odd.

Monday Evening Update.

I got home from helping a friend rewire his cabin - got more tomorrow and I'm tired beyond belief.

But - I decided to put the color coat on the body.

Ohmygosh - this is one of the nicest colors I've ever seen!

M&M Yellow and a half!

This is a paint I had mixed by my favorite auto paint supplier for a 2009 Camaro I painted a year ago for a friend and it fired off in about 15 minutes to a totally dry and unbelievably shiny surface.

I forgot how nice this stuff was to lay down and gloss-off. It's one of the easiest paints I've used in years.

I must've done something right - since that paint never saw the inside of my paint/thinner refrigerator at all. Yes - it gets hot enough to fire off a two- or three-part paint here where I live, although it's kinda rare.

I left it hanging for the night under the patio - so any off-gassing will be outside and when I get back from the final cabin rewire, I can take some pixs of it tomorrow.

Now I've really gotta get off the pot and get my p'ups and finish the headstock with the same color and some penguins.



An afterthought: perhaps I need black hardware. Lemme see how it looks in chrome first and then maybe some changes.

I also ordered the surfboard foam for my next Tuxedo Bass project.

Yeah - maybe so. I gotta think on it a bit and might install the chrome first and change it out later. I've got all chrome stuff here and on the way.
