Two Notes Le Bass Players Club

Not exactly my ideal choice, but these are the best I could source that should fit Le Bass.

I bought enough to either go all White or mix it up with Red in Channel B or simply for the Fusion knob.

To be continued.

The alternative knob set arrived from China yesterday and unfortunately they do not sit low enough on the pot shafts to be usable. The pot shafts on Le Bass extend out past the chassis panel a good little bit so that the knobs need to conceal as well as fit.

I am curious to see what Two Notes did to the knobs on the latest Le Bass production run so that I can perhaps go that route as well. Here's hoping that @Basstyra can post a preview photo. ;)

Cheers!

Actually, we kept the same knobs but replaced the small "carved" line by a bolder painted white line. This almost doesn't change the look of the preamp but still makes the pots more legible.

It's still not as clear as the kind of plastic knob posted just above, but it's definitively nicer :)

I just stumbled across this pedal whilst looking for a pre-amp / di solution. I'm very tempted to get one as it looks and sounds great and exactly what I was after.

I've read a few posts in this thread on issues when using T Rex fuel tanks. I have a Fuel Tank classic which has the 12v 500ma isolated port which in theory should be fine based on the pedal's requirements; what exactly are the problems and what's the cause? Any Fuel Tank users made it work?

I use a Chameleon Fuel tank and just bought a mA doubling cable as recommended by Two notes and have had no issues. Sounds like a dream! Pretty sure I found the cable on Amazon...

And I believe there is a spec sheet on two notes website which states the classic should work with no issues.

And now I see all Trex has been removed from that list.... They used to be included. Uh oh.

From looking into it more the issue seems to be do with annoying hum and Two Notes have removed T Rex units from their supported list. I do get hum issues with mine across a number of pedals which I've removed because it bugs me so much; seems to be a common complaint with the Fuel Tank classic. Think I'll eBay the fuel tank and get a different PS unit, 1 that the La Bass will be happy with :).

Finally got a chance to have a play with mine, probably the thing that has impressed me most about it is how good the A channel sounds with headphones + cab-sim, I've always really liked big bright clean tones and this plus the EMG humbuckers in my ESP deliver just that. I don't think the cab sim is too dark, but when I went out the 1/4 inch jack into my Mark Bass Little Mark III the sound i'd setup with the cab sim on did sound far to bright and being able enable the cab sim on the 1/4 inch out would be useful, however as the Little Mark III has a balanced input i'm now running out the Le Bass DI out into the balanced input on the amp, the only effect of that is the input volume is significantly quieter i'm now running the gain at 5 instead of 2.5 in a small room / bedroom setting although the master volume was still at 3. It was easier to mess with the EQ on the amp to make it sound nice with the cab sim on then with it off.

I did by it as a drive pedal but given I haven't had any decent ones before all I can say is i've got a really nice setting for the drive on Channel B / Cold Fusion it sounds very different but great both on my ESP with EMG's and my Epiphone Zenith with tapewounds.

The single coil active pickup in my zenith has always had a slight hum which is a bit worse through the Le Bass so I think ill try a EHX Hum Debugger at some point. I don't play slaps alot anymore but by tweeking the low mid and high mids on my Little Mark I could get a ok slaps sound, but without the mid controls on channel A I don't know how i'll go, maybe i'll get a eq and compressor or maybe its an excuse to get a bass with single coil pickups.

I received mine today, although I had shoulder surgery yesterday and so can't play with it properly I did plug it in to my amp.

Using the supplied 12v PSU I got hiss and all channels and a high level of hum from channel B and Hot Fusion mode; and even feedback coming through the amp when notes being played. When switching to channel B and between fusion modes I got loud pops.

When using my T Rex Fuel Tank classic and the 500 ma isolated 12v DC output this is reduced somewhat but the hot fusion mode didn't work, correctly. no sound when fusion blend set below 11am and hig pitched squeling when set to 3 or o clock and greater.

From looking at the basschat forum looks like some others have had similar issues; perhaps this a faulty unit? Anyone else experiencing unwanted levels of noise from the pedal and popping? Will be returning mine immediately.

I've certainly heard of people having issues with the Fuel Tank, and apparently Two Notes is no longer listing that as a supported power supply, The one that came with mine (Australian 240v EVERSURE) doesn't add to the slight noise i'm already getting from my amp thanks to sharing power with a couple of PC's and various other things. I sometimes have a barely audible pop when changing channels when the unit has just powered up but after that it seems fine.

The Left LED on mine is normally green instead of Yellow on channel B of mine, but I don't care enough about that to bother sending it back

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get one of these to cop a good Geddy/Squire Rickenbacker tone in a cold fusion setting, sort of like how Roey describes in the post below. I also want to turn off channel B, by only touching the pedal to hit the switch, and get a good, warm, tubey type of a sound with a only a small hint of OD (sort of like Jamerson's tone).

I don't think this should be too hard to manage, but I don't want the tone to be too boomy. In fact, I'd rather keep the Bass knob flat (or cut it), but have a nice bump in the low mids (around 250hz) or so.

I guess a cut in the bass and treble knobs with added gain in Channel A would give a bit of a mid boost, but roughly where does this mid bump lie (low mids, upper mids, etc)?

Also, anyone know the frequency that Channel A's bass knob is centred at?

Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to fill you in,
Last night I played with "FiftyWatt", one of the bands I'm in, hard, drop tuned, thrashy rock band.
I finally dialed in cold fusion mode as an "always on" pre, I was able to control the saturation and thump-iness with my volume knob and right hand technique, sounded like I was using a Ric with a guitar amp/bass amp setup but with without actually doing that.

In case anyone wants to try it:

Channel A is not flat with the knobs at noon. I've not measured it but it sounds transparent with the bass all the way off and the treble at 9 o'clock; any higher than that results in a mid scoop, so I think you'd find it hard to get a mid boost from channel A.

That sucks. I wish there was a mid control for A as well... Back to the drawing board.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Yeah I think you'd struggle potentially, I have a slight boost with it set to 3 oclock and I can get a but of a mid hump at 0 but whether its enough for you.... I use the active eq on my Epiphone Zenith to cut the Bass and Highs in order to get a mid hump and it sounds really good. From the variety of basses i've run through the pedal the one thing Channel A does really well is enhance the characteristics of whatever you put into it, the other thing to look at is EQ pedals arn't expensive so if the Le Bass doesn't provide the control you need on the mids maybe you could put one in front of it, I may well do that at some point but for completely different reasons (The mid control isn't close enough to turn a bass with humbuckers into one with single coils) so maybe a EQ pedal will save me another bass and its even more likely to work for you.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a minimalist and don't want many pedals. Unfortunately, there's not many other single pedals that can do this.

The Source Audio Aftershock was looking to be a good solution but there seems to be a high end roll off at around 3-5k (depending on the Drive emulation), which is too low for me... I'd have to feed it with a treble boost, LOL.
