Two Notes Le Bass Players Club

Okay... so, it arrived today and I had the opportunity to try with the following:

1. Gallien Krueger MB Fusion 800
2. Markbass Multiamp
3. Mixer into Yamaha HS08 monitors

Since the GK is a tube amp, there wasn't much of a difference between the Le Bass and the GK. It didn't ad much to the tonal character that I couldn't get from channel A and B and the EQ. (To be expected...)

It really did warm up the Markbass head. Each of the amp models sounded better with the exception of 1 of the vintage models.

Recording direct with this i where it shines! It has the same rmth a when I connect the DI out of the GK head.

I sold the Markbass head to a local studio and can't be happier!

Has anyone tried this with upright? I'm currently using a Samsamp BDDI(version 1), and I'm thinking about getting a Le Bass. Comparing this pedal against a Sansamp VTDI, a Radial Bassbone v2, and the BDDI. Opinions?

Hey Guys, new to the site.
I'm considering buying a Le Bass and was wondering how it Compares to the Sansamp VT (or even a flyrig),the Darkglass Vintage Ultra or Radial BassBone. Anyone had any experience with those?
I'm looking for something I can use on recordings and that I can plug straight on a PA since my amp is not really ideal.

What I dislike on the Sansamp VT is the lack of a boost or a switch or a drive channel thats why I've considered the fly rig.

As an owner of Le Bass, a VTDI, and a VMT, I can say without hesitation that the tones coming from Le Bass are superior and more rich than the other two, IMHO.

In areas such as form factor and power requirement, Le Bass is not as clear a winner, but YMMV.

Form factor doesn't bother me too much, it's a bit large but I guess thats the price you pay for having a real tube inside. Looking at the power adaptor and it's 12V. Not ideal but also not the end of the world, would be nice it it ran with phantom power.

Unfortunately to run the tube properly it takes a lot more current then phantom power can provide.

I've become a "guitar player."

I took my pedal board over to a few bassists houses so they could hear it. Played it as an insert in front of:

• TecAmp Puma 900
• Markbass
• Fender Rumble 500

and a few other heads. I had channel A set flat (bass and treble set to 0) and matched the gain so there was no boost.

They all said "I don't hear the difference!" to which I replied... "no... listen... it's more round and warm..."

After that they all said "I hear it, but that's it?"

No... that's just the beginning!

Bass and treble set to 0, as in noon? That is definitely not flat. Maybe someone from Two Notes could chime in, but it sounds to me like the bass EQ on Channel A is boost only, I run it almost all the way off, and treble around 9 o'clock.

0 as in Zero as in all the way off.

I'm a huge two notes fan, le bass + torpedo CAB is absolutely killer and my go to set up now for live and recording. That said I owned a noble for a bit and that was the only preamp that made me question my two notes combo. It's difficult to do a straight comparison of the noble to le bass because they excel in different areas so your personal preference and application will determine which you may prefer. Basically though i think the noble sounds like a $900 pre amp/DI....it's that good. There's no noise whatsoever, the tone is so insanely warm and fat, I literally couldn't find a bad tone. I only sold it because I needed the cash at the time and I also want to buy one from Jack at noble and support a company like that. In a straight comparison I could hear the difference of the noble to le bass just comparing my favorite tone from each, it wasn't drastictic but the noble did seem cleaner with less noise, tighter, and it got spongier in a tubey way...I'm typically not a person that buys into more expensive gear= better but you could hear that it was a $900 pre vs a $300 pre. I don't know that a non bass player would detect the difference but anybody on talkbass would. None of that was really surprising to me, everyone loves the noble for a reason, it's fantastic.
Now for le bass, sure I thought the noble sounded better but that wouldn't surprise anyone it's a $600 difference it should sound better. But it wasn't drastically better, and don't get me wrong Le bass sounds great, it's a monster it just doesn't sound as refined as the noble. Where le bass earns my respect and a permanent spot on my pedal board is its versatility, it offers 4 different and equally fantastic tonal options. The dirtier tones on le bass are worth price of admission by themselves and the fat clean sound I think far out classes it's equally priced challengers.
Another big factor for me is going through the torpedo cab, as much as I like the noble I like it better through the CAB. When I compared the le bass through the CAB to the noble through the CAB the difference seemed even more subtle to me.
at the end of the day though I love my le bass and I'm excited to eventually add the noble to my board with it...in the meantime though I'm waiting on a Broughton audio 1073 inspired pre/DI that I should get this week that I can't wait for!

IMHO, the Torpedo CAB adds value to most every signal it receives. It fills in the blanks and adds a special "tonal blur" that my ear has grown very used to. This blur may be the reason for only subtle differences between the Noble and Le Bass when compared in that light.

Agreed I've gone without le bass a couple times since it's become a standard part of my board and it has been badly missed.

The guitarist in my band just ordered one. He tried mine out at practice and loved the warm tube sound and the scooped overdrive. The cold and hot fusion blue him away as well.

His words? Far easier to get that tube sound I'm looking for without having to mic a cab.

For me? One step closer to a silent studio.

... now to work on the drummer...

Hey guys, what are you running in front, in the loop or after your Le Bass? I'm rethinking/downsizing my setup around my Le Bass (this thing is so good). For now, I'm looking at bass > comp > octamizer > RC bass > Le Bass (OD and fuzz in loop) > chorus > vol pedal > x-blender (delay in loop) > amp. I generally use the DI of my amp (DB751 or TH500). Any advice, considerations or suggestions? thanks.

I am or (will be when I get the extra pedals) probably running more in the loop then most because I run out of the DI on my Le Bass into the balanced input of my amp (I then compensate a bit on the amp EQ I have a hifi sounding amp) and run the Le Bass as always on mostly on channel A or B. Currently I have Boss ME-50B -> Le Bass (MXR Bass Comp). I'm planning a Delay/Reverb to run post the compressor in the loop as well. In a ideal world with a much bigger budget then I have now i'd probably run octive > fuzz > overdrive > synth > envelope filter > Le Bass (Compressor -> Volume -> Delay -> Reverb )
I don't know if i'd run the envelope filter before or in the Le Bass loop, The important one i've found Is the compressor works better after the Le Bass, I'm running my B channel at the point of breakup where playing lightly only gives some mild dirt where as playing harder gives a fair bit more distortion, running the compressor before the Le Bass will limit that where as i've found running it after means that I can play lightly for the mild grit and heavier for some heavier distortion and have the volumes equaled out to be more similar. I've also found the fuzz and overdrive's on my ME-50b sound better going into a slightly dirty B channel on the Le Bass so maybe also consider trying your overdrive/fuzz in front.
