I bought the Lebass preamp from Sweetwater over the weekend and it should arrive tomorrow. Ordered the B Stock (cause money is tight) and after reading this thread I am horrified that it may be one of the ones mentioned here.

Hope its OK. Have to read back through the thread and note the issues mentioned.

Sweetwater has always been great so surely they wouldn't sell a defective unit, would they?

Can anyone give a quick rundown of the pros/cons of the Le Bass? I was about to pull the trigger and stumbled on this thread. At 33 pages, I have to admit I'm a bit reluctant to go sorting through it to find the "issues" mentioned above. I'm looking to drive the power amp of my GK700RBII with it, with a Keeley Bassist and Barbershop ME in front. Does it have the juice? Also, I see there's a headphone out, but I don't see anything in the basic sales lit about an AUX IN for MP3 play along, etc.

Just looking for a basic synopsis about what to expect. I'm not interested in accompanying it with the Torpedo so much as I want a preamp that stands on its own with my rig. I'll read back on the thread and edit/delete as I garner more info. Thanks in advance!

Pros are many, Cons are few but significant:
  • Large, very non-standard form factor
  • 12V DC, high-current power requirement
  • No cabinet sim on the 1/4" output
In reply to two of your questions: It has plenty of juice, but no AUX IN.

Thanks a bunch! The powering isn't a deal killer, but the lack of aux in might be. Also scanning back a bit, it looks like I'd very much have to be in the market for a new pedalboard but I'm not looking to really move beyond the height of the Nano/+ series...I guess that pretty much rules this one out for me. Thanks again!

IMG_0425.JPG Depends I how many pedal you are planing to use. It takes up less room than the markbass.

I did get a new board for mine and actually a smaller one, which was very liberating, but I still managed to cram loads on.
It's a great pedal and can also make other pedals sound great.
I got a pedal train metro 16 with a soft case new for £40, round the LeBass second hand for about £120. All in all it's less than a lot of mediocre pedals brand new. The drive sounds you can get are so good that it shifted the Darkglass b7k I had off my board. Granted it's not the same, but it is close and you can also get different sounds out of it in a league of its own , especially the clean A channel on its own not to mention cold fusion, hot fusion, B channel on its own. Remember also you can change the tube for your liking.
People always talk about their go to pedal and always in pedal etc. It's cliché but it genuinely is, the A channel is always on for me making whatever your bass is sound a big more and push you through.
Anyway, here is what it is like on a small 3 rail metro 16 pedal board, with no overhang.

Understand about the OCD, I"m the the same except TONE comes first for me and I'll figure out how to make it work on the floor second. It is a great preamp IMO. Good luck in your GASing!

Here's a question for the Le Bass intelligentsia: If the C.A.B is used in the loop of the Le Bass, are the CAB sims output to both the DI and the 1/4" out? And if "yes", would you bypass the Le Bass's cab sim (via the speaker sim defeat button) as it would be repetitious?

I've found all you have to do is press the button in and it won't be as bright. I learned this from Mike Van Tine, the rep for Two Notes....
