You could certainly do much, much worse with an instrument that costs $100...some of these "mystery" basses end up being a truly wonderful find. At the very least, this is a Peavey using either US or overseas parts of a certain known standard, can't say the same for much of the $100 unknown basses you see on ebay.
Bottom line (pun intended) if it plays well, it IS good. Like I said, I'd buy the pickups alone if it doesn't work out.
The neck is worth $100 alone, no matter what.
I know that's not the point. This isn't a buy it and strip it and sell it off question, what we're all saying is that if you have the $100 to spare, no matter what, you've already won.
