Really looking at that idea right now.
My Yamaha Attitude Custom has a split P pickup in the normal spot and a big humbucker at the neck heel and it is a great sounding bass.
The Foundation 4004 you describe would surely sound different from the Attitude because Peavey SF pickups sound awesome and different from everything else! :)

With both the Peavey & Ric being made of solid Maple, is a good starting point for the Foundation 4004 clone. I would want to check that the pickup spacing between the neck & middle pickop, would be the same on the Ric 4004 & the Foundation.
Another thought I had was how it would sound if you put a set of, Ric pickups into a Peavey Foundation :unsure:.

The Foundation body I have here is 1992 or maybe a few years later, it is definitely not maple, I stripped the reddy-red red paint off it about two weeks ago.
Looks to be three pieces of poplar probably with a veneer across the front and a veneer across the back for some unknown reason.
If they were going to put opaque red paint, there was no need to cap the front and back.
Not sure how it will be finished when we're done with it, depends on what we do with pickups in it.
Peavey may have been buying bodies by then, from somewhere in Asia maybe probably?
If I put two Foundation SF's in it, one will go in the normal middle spot and one will go up north by the neck heel.
If I had three SF pickups available I would put three in it, two in the regular spots and one by the neck heel.

Anybody got a stray SF pickup, two, three ..hit me up.

Mind going over your stripping technique? I have a 91 in that fisher price red ive always dreamed of refinishing...

He used a Dewalt cordless 7" polisher with an 80 grit disc on it.
The wheel that you stick the 80 grit disc onto is flexible at the edge.
Keep in mind the guy who did it (my son) has many, many, many hours logged with hand held grinders.
Grinding/cutting steel and aluminum, grinding marble and granite, just lots of experience so he has a very delicate touch with a grinder when needed.
If I had done it, I am not sure it would have been done in 8 minutes and I know it would not have been done without some gouging.
After all my procrastination, he took the paint off this body so fast I had to laugh...without effing it up even a little.
I am proud of his skills with so many tools, but boy do I feel like a monkey most times these days.
The things he can make with a table saw and carpenters tools, the things he can make with a welder and steel working tools...hand forging, blacksmith work, cabinet making, flooring of any kind, stone work, brewing, etc.
He took the very basic working guy things I taught him starting when he was about six years old and has expanded those skills beyond any expectation I ever had for him.
The kid couldn't spell four letter words in sixth or seventh grade, but put a tool in his hands and he could do anything, starting with a computer.
He taught himself almost everything school related with the help of computer/internet, he learned to spell in high school through his constant use of the computer as a learning tool.
He eventually ended up in the advanced chemistry, physics and higher maths classes.
Most of his time spent in classrooms has been useless, ADD was an issue for him until he learned how to learn from the machine and then off he went upward.

Sorry for the rant, but I was laughing while he stripped my Foundation body in the time it takes me to ride around the block.

I spy a USA Millennium J/MM four string at GC online for $300 that they have listed in Fair condition.
I don't see an obvious problem with it and that's cheap for a USA Milly, right?
Might be worth grabbing for somebody here and no problem returning tomorrow morning before it even ships out if they admit to some real problem.

if in good condition and USA $300 is the low end of the current price spectrum.
