When I got my Forum Plus, the pickguard was spray painted semi-gloss black and looked rather punk rock. I used elbow grease and some fine sandpaper to remove the paint. The original white was aged to a pretty cool parchment, but was rough enough to inspire a new guard. I went simple and did a single ply matte black and really liked it. I too don't really care for white guards--60s Fender mint green or a really deep parchment, yes, but not white.

However, if I was to do it again, I would order two guards, one black and one with a lot more flair, like the candy crushes, brushed metallics, darker sparkles, florentines...
I got this Fire Opal for my 72 J, it would look pretty cool on Peavey's 62 Blue.

But in the end, I opted for this green 4 ply... It's louder, draws attention away from the natural ash and really makes this dear old bass mine (along with the Barts, J-Retro and BadAss II, lol).
FWIW, I don't really like natural wood instruments much either, hence the 'guard choices...

The green Forum looks so good with the black guard on it, nice dark rich Brittish Racing Green.
The FireOpal looks similar to the blue/green abalone I am looking at for the '62 blue Fury.
I absolutely hate the bright green guard on the natural Jazz body, I would have put tort on that all day. :)

The Forum has such a cool green, it really needed the black guard. The white guard looked 'cheap' for lack of a better word.
The green guard on the J is definitely polarizing among those that see it. Most are aghast and react similarly, haha.
Though it came from the factory with a white guard, it sported a black guard for years.
The green was chosen 80% to distract from the ash, and 20% chosen to give a salute to Holger Czukay's white J with a green guard. Plus, if I was to take this out on an 80s cover gig, it would look more era appropriate. :laugh:
However, I haven't really gigged that 72 out for 20 years. I have basses that would be much easier to accept if lost or stolen. Heaven forbid!
P.S. I hate tort! (not very TB to hate tort) ;)

They are very similar: they weigh within 4 ounces of each other and all the neck specs are nearly identical-can't feel any difference at all. The serial numbers are 01920XXX and 01963XXX, so they are seemingly both from later in '84, if the serials were released fairly consecutively. I put a .01uF tone cap, push/pull series/parallel pot, Stealth string tree and flats on the left one. The right one is stock with the original .02uF tone cap and stainless rounds.
Oh, and Schaller Straplocks on both. :)

Oh, since it was a 100% impulse buy, I really gave the 'new' 84 a very judgmental inspection as I didn't need it at all and would have returned it. I didn't want it if it had any issues. However, this bass straight-up fell into place really nicely, as most do. Refoamed the case tonight, too.

They look amazing bigtone guess it was meant to be your bass & with only, a couple of ounces between them both must have been a great relief to the impulsive buy.Great picture BTW hope you have many years enjoying them. :thumbsup::cool::drool:

Thank you! It's a blessing and a curse. haha I love these early production Foundys.
This one is 9#14 oz and my other with flats is 9#10 oz. For many, lately, that's 'too heavy,' but for me, it's a non issue. As you know, these balance on the strap perfectly and don't feel heavy. Just like my old J and El Toro, which are both much heavier.
I'm really lenient with these old Peaveys, but this one is exceptional. It does seem every bit as good as my other. Time will tell, but it's pretty clear given how it bounced back from a severely bowed neck and how well it's holding steady since getting set up.
I'll get a picture of it's back posted, it's got that gnarly foam reaction. No biggie, though. Feel and tone rule the day!

Sub'd...maybe this year I'll finally get around to re-lining my bomb cases! That nasty foam crap is already cleaned out, just need to find the right stuff for relining.

More likely they had multiple customers claiming they had 2nd Gen Furys which were really 3rd Gen Furys. Asking for measurements saves any problems.

Peavey bodies were done by machine and the PGs are also done by machine. When the Purchasing dept found a cheaper supplier they just sent them the .DXF file for the PGs, it's cheaper than changing Peavey's CNC machine code.

The Foundriot, or... Patriation! :D
Well... a reasonably priced, loaded mid to later 80s Foundation maple body with neck plate showed up. It was in fantastic condition and was fully copper shielded at some point. There was a lot of extra wire attached to everything, so I to cut it back and clean up the harness. Not usually a fan of white, but this is a pearl white and looks quite nice!
It makes a really nice companion to my recently orphaned 87 Patriot neck that I loaded up with all my leftover tuners and string tree. Will make a truss cover at some point.
This will be the 4 string bass that lives at the practice space.

It's a Patriot neck. From my 87 "RicRiot." I found a 85 Patriot neck with the 1.75" wide nut for RicRiot and the original 1.5" neck was orphaned. It's a great neck, so I had to find a body for it.
Funny thing is that the seller of the body had an identical 85 Patriot 1.75" neck on it when he played the bass. He sold the neck separately. This is the 2nd Patriot neck joined to the Foundy body! haha.
