Yikes. It's cool as a concept, but not necessarily as a player.
Not only do you get a compromised 5 string, but you overpaid about 5x it's street value!
The ultra narrow spacing, strings all the way to the ends of the neck edges and pickup fields and a clear guard to reveal the routs and shielding? Hmm...

For sure. I mentioned in previous posts about the shortcomings of my SF equipped Dyna 5. That Dyna Bass 5 was not much of a stretch for their first foray into 5 strings, in terms of the neck and nut widths, string spacing, 4 string pickup use, etc... relative to a T40 conversion. The Dyna had plenty of revisions to address for subsequent generations and then Peavey did the right thing and made new 5 string models with the info gathered from experience and feedback.

A similar thing happened at G&L with the L5000 and Ibanez with the RB885: really narrow string spacing, but at least they used 5 string pickups. :D
The early MM SR5 Stingrays were a little better design from the get-go, but were different looking from the 4s and needed a little nudge to fall into their own as an accepted 5 string model.

The add stated the bass was in new looking condition and all his basses are over 50 years old. I said I'd consider paying half the extra shipping when I got bass in hand. I got it. It's a nice bass overall, but not new looking and the chrome doesn't really sparkle. The board is grungy and the strings feel mildewy, seems to be very old flats. I called the guy on these things and after he gave me a tongue thrashing about his add and how the bass has been in the case for 15 years our correspondence ended...wait, where is the case!?! It came in a new cheap gig bag packed just ok, I don't even think it was a UPS Store pack job! I just appreciate honesty in listings and will not tolerate someone talking up an instrument like its new and perfect. Needless to say I didn't pay the extra costs as I overpaid at $500 thinking it was near mint. Oh well, I love it anyway.

With all that said, I tuned it up and plugged 'er in...It plays and sounds great "right outta the box" a little TLC is all she needs... Its a good bass and arrived unscathed. I hope our friend @B-Mac had good luck with his from the same buyer.

Fantastic American made bass guitar with one of the better necks in the business.... that get ignored all the time.
That's why most of us are here I think, we see them as worthy of attention, and recognize a screaming bargain when we see one. :D
Higher priced than many we have bought, but comparatively still a screaming bargain at $450.

I just read that post, someone mentions a Gold Forum... I have an 84 Foundation in gold. I'm not sure how many models they offered in that color, but I like it and I'm always keeping an eye out for unusual colors. The other colors mentioned in the thread I believe are 'Pearl Rose' aka Pink and 'Pearl Heather' aka Lavender. The Lavender has been the elusive one... The pic of the lavender one I swiped from TB.

I've heard the lavender one called Salmon, which I also love that color ! Actually, all three you posted are amazing colors ! I'd rock those all day long.
