Two or Three years back a TB member asked Geoff Gould straight
" Did you make the Peavey G-bass necks ?"
His single word reply , "No" .

Decent enough.
3+2 peghead helped any dead spot issues. I liked the pickups , ceramic like most Peaveys but no overwound harshness.

I own two of Geoff’s basses. I did ask about Modulus necks made for and the only necks they made were for the Brian Bromberg 4 and 5 string basses.
Again, sorry if it sounded harsh. I need to express myself better. I said it in my head jokingly, but when it's seen as type, it sounds like I'm bitter. Ouch !!! I don't want that. I'm a happy go lucky type.

That custom pick guard on the white one makes it look contemporary. Very 21st century looking.

Pickups...
some of the models get a rattling sound and weak output.
Many times, the problem is the mounting glue gets brittle... you can just stick the pickup back on the poles and silicone it in place (good to test to ensure you have correct polarity)

Mech (Ronnie Goss) confirmed that Bell & Carlson made them and he worked at Peavey for 30 years.
When I got my G bass, I called the customer service lady at Peavey and asked for info about my bass and she rattled off all the details/date of the build and she said Bell & Carlson was the supplier listed for the neck.
I asked her who Bell & Carlson was and she said she did not know but that's where the neck came from.
I called Ronnie and asked who they were and he told me.
I then called Bell & Carlson and they told me they made them for Peavey.
I let Scott Groves know the truth in the comments below his long Youtube video about the Peavey G Bass/GV Bass and he had a fit and called me every name in the book, and then changed his post to something a lot more polite but still standing by his assertion that Modulus made them.
Bell & Carlson.....for sure.

Scott Grove...... Therein lies the problem. Fun fact: I bought that blue GV in his video. It's not one that I play regularly, but it's in "the vault".
Strange Fury showed up on Reverb (no affiliation). What's with the painted neck (headstock, back of neck, and fretboard)? Was this something offered by Peavey or was this done aftermarket? Not a fan of that look, but TEHO.

That was made at Peavey, all maple neck. I had one and sold it. It was a nice bass, I just had too many Fury basses.
I was blissfully ignorant of who Scott Grove is. I looked up the video and now I understand your remark about him being the problem. He reminds me of a line out of Neil Young's song "Last Trip to Tulsa"............"cus you're the kind of man, you know, who likes what he says. I wonder what it's like to be so far over my head?"
A while back a GV would come up for sale occasionally. I see G basses for sale but it has been a while since I saw a GV for sale. I'm keeping mine.
Mine has a sunburst finish and the body wood looks to be alder. I don't know if that contributes to the tone but it is a wonderful sounding bass. It sounds similar to my Cirrus basses but has a voice of its own. The B string is a little more clear sounding on the Cirrus basses. The B is very good on the GV but not quite as clear sounding up the neck where the Cirrus basses are exceptional.
What do you think? Alder? Poplar? I don't think it is basswood.
