I was blissfully ignorant of who Scott Grove is. I looked up the video and now I understand your remark about him being the problem. He reminds me of a line out of Neil Young's song "Last Trip to Tulsa"............"cus you're the kind of man, you know, who likes what he says. I wonder what it's like to be so far over my head?"

A while back a GV would come up for sale occasionally. I see G basses for sale but it has been a while since I saw a GV for sale. I'm keeping mine.

Mine has a sunburst finish and the body wood looks to be alder. I don't know if that contributes to the tone but it is a wonderful sounding bass. It sounds similar to my Cirrus basses but has a voice of its own. The B string is a little more clear sounding on the Cirrus basses. The B is very good on the GV but not quite as clear sounding up the neck where the Cirrus basses are exceptional.

What do you think? Alder? Poplar? I don't think it is basswood.

I let Scott Groves know the truth in the comments below his long Youtube video about the Peavey G Bass/GV Bass and he had a fit and called me every name in the book, and then changed his post to something a lot more polite but still standing by his assertion that Modulus made them.

Strange Fury showed up on Reverb (no affiliation). What's with the painted neck (headstock, back of neck, and fretboard)? Was this something offered by Peavey or was this done aftermarket? Not a fan of that look, but TEHO.

I had one... sold it here... I did 100% stealth out on it... turned out cool... nicer bass than my USA P Unicorn.

Yes, painted neck was an upgrade option.

They are two totally different basses, so it's like a jazz bass compared to a Pbass, so to speak. I think Tim or someone said the Gbass is similar to a G&L something or other, and the axcelerator is like a bolt on Cirrus, in a way with a two band EQ instead of a 3 band. So, "better" depends on your application.

Also, the Gbass has a graphite neck, so it sounds more midrangey and the benefit of graphite is the stability. If you're a touring musician it won't require much adjusting, if any at all. Whereas a wooden neck is affected by climate and elevation.

I find that the Axcelerator has a very thin neck and the Gbass has a rounder neck. Both extremely comfortable.

Both are active basses, too.

I just dug both out.

8lb each.

Axcelerator nut width 40mm, G-bass nut width 38mm.

Almost no difference in neck thickness between them.

Both sport utility hardware , works but nothing fancy.

Of the two I prefer the Axcel . Skinny nut 35" scale 4 string necks do nothing for me. Difference between the neck pickups is slight, 1/2" when adjusted for scale , Axcel wins by offering a bridge pickup.

For £200 I felt the Axcel was a decent bass , £300 G-bass brought a meh feeling. TBF any graphite neck bass would hard job against the Vigiers , heck the B-Quad is in it's case while the Passion and Arpege are never more than 8 ft away


My gut feeling is the G-bass was very much a case of "we've loads of stock and soon to be obsolete parts , lets try a 4 string while we fine tune the fiver." , by all accounts the G-V is a far superior instrument.

Never played a G-V so I'm only going on the opinions of folk I trust.

you might do better with the original bridge back on it. The spacing looks off on the E with no room left to adjust.

Aren't thinner necks faster? My Dyna 4 and 5 and Palaedium and way faster than my Foundations and T-40.
